In a recent media interaction, director Madhur Bhandarkar spoke about onboarding an ensemble cast including Prateik Babbar, Sai Tamhankar, Aahana Kamra and Shweta Basu Prasad in his film next India Lockdown.

Speaking about the cast, Bhandarkar said, “When I have a subject or an idea, I have a very restless filmmaker in me. I want to tell the story to the world. There’s also a thought that before anyone else I want to make the film. That’s how I called the right people. I called Prateik Babbar and Sai Tamhankar to play the migrant workers, Aahana Kumra to play the pilot, Prakash Belawadi as I’m a big fan of his work in South cinema and Shweta Basu Parsad, whom I really liked since Makdi days.” He further added, “Everyone was on board and when I told them that this is the subject and the world that I want to showcase, they were all very excited. They all must’ve thought how come no other film maker thought about it. After watching the film at IFFI, a lot of people called me and about 250 people saw the film. They all said that it’s a very well-made film and forget India, nobody in the world has depicted the lockdown, even an attempt has not been made. I am very happy with the kind of response I have got.”

India Lockdown is based on the struggle and the fight for survival by the people during the pandemic, Bhandarkar revealed the reason behind bringing the story to light, “People should take away the unity and the spirit of how people fought that lockdown. My film ends on a very positive note,” he said.

India Lockdown will be streaming on Zee5 on December 2
