Director Sriram Raghavan returns to the director's chair four years after the humongous success of his previous neo noir Andhadhun.
This time he collaborates with Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif on Merry Christmas. The makers have now announced that the film will release on December 15. The announcement came with a poster, which is designed in a retro, campy style. The elements in the poster hint at another Sriram Raghavan thriller set in Mumbai. The actors feature in it with a mysterious look while the city's classic landmarks such as the Regal Theater and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus make an appearance. A classic Mumbai kaali-peeli also features on the poster with a caption reading "Raat jithni Sangeen hogi, subah uthni rangeen hogi" (As serious as the night, the day is as colourful).
The film was announced much earlier and was supposed to be the Hindi cinema of actor Vijay Sethupathi, who has now starred in the web series Farzi as well as Santhosh Sivan's Mumbaikar, while also starring as an antagonist in the upcoming Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawaan. The last update Merry Christmas received was in December 2022 when the first look of the film was released.
Merry Christmas is written by Sriram Raghavan, Arjit Biswas, Pooja Ladha Surti and Anukriti Pandey. It is backed by Ramesh Taurani and Jaya Taurani as well as Sanjay Routrey and Kewal Garg. Pritam provides the music for the film while Madhu Neelakandan and Pooja Ladha Surti handle the cinematography and editing respectively. The film will be released in Hindi as well as Tamil, also featuring Radhika Apte, Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Tinnu Anand and Aditi Govitrikar.
