‘Because our Society is Such’: Neena Gupta Talks about May-December Romances

In a candid conversation with Film Companion, actor Neena Gupta spoke about older male actors marrying or romancing women half their age on screen, and how the opposite isn’t considered acceptable. “Ye toh jeevan mein hi problem hain, samaj mein hain (This is a real-life problem in society). Uska kya karoge? (What can you do about it?) Abhi woh 60 years ka aadmi 20 years ki ladki se shaadi karta hain (now a 60 year old man is marrying a 20 year old). Ulta ho sakta hain? Nahi na! (Is the opposite possible? No!) I’m used to it, humein nahi kuch alag lagta (we don’t feel anything different) because our society is such. The TV, films is a reflection of it [society].
