‘Post’ Mortem: Celebrity Social Media Posts That Caught Our Attention

How private is your 'private' social media account, especially when you're a celebrity?

While I would rather give away every single bit of my personal information to Facebook to know where my cousin's best friend's neighbor is vacationing this summer, most of the thinking world doesn't agree with me. After the stunning revelations of the social media platform allowing a company called Cambridge Analytica to gather users' data for political purposes, many celebrities decided to quit Facebook in protest, including Will Ferrell, Elon Musk and Cher.

Closer to home, Farhan Akhtar jumped on the #DeleteFacebook Movement and tweeted the announcement that he has quit the platform, well almost.

Private or not, these celebrities didn't refrain from sharing their thoughts, selfies and 'self-written' poems on the net, here are the ones that caught our attention:

THE GOOD

Arjun Kapoor

The beautiful thing about cinema is the way it connects people, regardless of their generation. When Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty posted a selfie together, evoking strong Hera Pheri nostalgia, you know, the memories that still haven't been tainted by the wildly unnecessary sequel. Turns out we're not the only ones.

Fanboy Arjun Kapoor couldn't resist voicing all of our opinions through one Tweet:

Karan Johar

Self-deprecation is an art few Bollywood celebrities have mastered. Karan Johar has cemented his position in the woefully short list through his Tweets time and again.

Case in point, this week's reply to a fan pointing out an obvious flaw in the logic of his Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…:

This is one answer we want more than any other, Karan.

Sushant Singh Rajput

While Sushant Singh Rajput's presence on the Internet has provided me with endless confusion, his 'self musings' this week were actually pretty solid.

If only Sushant proactively hires a bot to hack into every celebrity's phone and send this as an alert right before they're Tweeting out something, the world would be a better place.

THE CRINGEY

Hrithik Roshan

OK Hrithik Roshan fans, I'm giving you a head start here to prepare your hate messages for me. Please make them good, I need sustenance.

Here goes.

This week Hrithik Roshan decided to take a leaf out of Amitabh Bachchan's playbook and addressed his son via the medium of a self-written poem that he recites in a professionally edited video.

His poem asks his kids to overcome fear, something he could have told him while posing for a photo on their next exotic vacation, and how to not let fear keep you from being successful, using his own experience as an example.

On an unrelated note, what's the tagline of that soft drink that Hrithik is paid to promote? Something about Darr ke aage jeet, no?

THE CONFUSING

Aamir Khan

No shade on Aamir Khan, but what on God's green earth going on with his Instagram?

His digital strategy so far has been to post grid collages of 9 images that form a big picture, with a simple caption accompanying them. But turns out it also includes deleting his previous posts.

Rehashing the question I had after watching Dhoom 3: Why, Aamir Khan? Why?

Is it paranoia that Instagram will sell his data to political parties? We need answers. Please.

Farhan Akhtar

If you're taking a stand, a half-hearted approach is usually not the best idea. Especially, when you're a much-scrutinized celebrity on the Internet.

Nobody told this to Farhan Akhtar who proudly announced that he had deleted his personal Facebook account, but kept his verified account active.

Facebook is still considered to be one of the top ways to reach a wider audience, something that might appeal to a celebrity who might want to promote their show timings and dates effectively.

Cher acknowledged this while announcing the deletion of her Facebook account.

Guess he wants to have his cake and eat it too.
