In the age of hybrid workforces, many more of us are relying on streaming platforms in search of distraction, escape or just plain entertainment. With a new month comes new possibilities, talent, collaborations and shiny new releases for us to get lost in.

From the new Mike Flanagan horror series to the tv adaptation of Gregory David Roberts's novel Shantaram, here's a list of what's releasing this month across platforms.

Netflix

The Midnight Club

When: October 7

Mike Flanagan's adapts Christopher Pike's 1994 novel of the same name for his latest horror series, in which eight terminally ill teens meet up at an isolated manor at midnight to tell each other scary stories.

Mismatched Season 2

When: October 14

Prajakta Koli, Rohit Saraf and Ranvijay Singha reprise their roles in the second season of the coming-of-age Netflix series.

The School For Good and Evil

When: October 19

When two best friends are kidnapped and held at an enchanted school, they find themselves on opposing sides of an epic battle, one that puts their friendship put to the test as they try to return home. Directed by Paul Feig, the film stars Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington and Michelle Yeoh.

Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities

The horror anthology series features eight shorts directed by Jennifer Kent, Panos Cosmatos, Guillermo Navarro, David Prior, Catherine Hardwicke, Ana Lily Amirpour and Vincenzo Natali.

The Good Nurse

A nurse discovers that one of her colleagues has been poisoning their patients in this based-on-real-events film starring Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne.

Wendell & Wild

When: October 28

Jordan Peele, Keegan Michael-Key, Angela Bassett and Ving Rhames star in this stop-motion horror comedy, in which two scheming demons enlist the help of a teenager to travel to the Land of the Living.

Amazon Prime Video

Maja Maa

When: October 6

Directed by Anand Tiwari, the film sees Madhuri Dixit play a middle-class Gujarati mother whose past threatens to disrupt her son's engagement.

Catherine Called Birdy

When: October 7

Based on the 1994 novel of the same name by Karen Cushman, this medieval comedy written and directed by Lena Dunham follows the young daughter of a destitute Lord, who repeatedly wrecks her father's plans to marry her off to a wealthy suitor. It stars Bella Ramsey, Andrew Scott and Billie Piper.

The Peripheral

When: October 21

Based on William Gibson's novel of the same name, the science fiction series stars Chloe Grace Moretz and Jack Reynor. It follows a woman who discovers a connection to an alternate reality.

Run Sweetheart Run

When: October 28

A single LA mother decides to get back into the dating scene, only to discover that her initially charming and magnetic blind date harbours a sinister, violent side.

Louis Armstrong’s Black & Blues
