2018 was a terrific year for those glued to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hotstar, even as the other Indian OTT platforms were trying to play catch-up. The new year promises to be even bigger and better for the streaming audience. And trust me, 2019 is going to be so much more than the year Game of Thrones wraps up. Here are some of the NEW shows I am looking forward to this year.
For years now, The New York Times has been running a weekly column called Modern Love which explores human relationship in all its manifestations. Amazon is wisely turning into an eight-episode anthology series starring everyone from Anne Hathaway and Andy Garcia to Dev Patel and Tina Fey.
A lot of us used to play this game as kids, learning about different parts of the world, travelling vicariously with the eponymous fictional assassin in her signature red trench coat and hat. And now, Netflix has turned it into an animated series with Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) as the voice of Carmen Sandiego. This should be fun.
Yes, they are turning our favourite vampire mockumentary into a TV series. With a small little change though – this one's set in Staten Island. But the three vampires "who have been roommates for hundreds and hundreds of years" do go to Manhattan to create a ripple or two.

But something tells me, later this year, we are going to call her Nadia, the protagonist of this new show co-created by Amy Poehler about "a guest of honour at a seemingly inescapable party".
Gillian Anderson is a sex therapist discussing masturbation with her on-screen son, played by Asa Butterfield (the kid from Hugo) in the trailer which just dropped online. If that's not cool enough, the son goes on to start a Sex Therapy clinic in his school to impart the knowledge and jump up the social ranks.
Get Out's Jordan Peele helms, narrates and hosts the rebooting of the much-loved paranormal TV show from the 1960s. The cast boasts of a mix of experienced and fresh talent including Greg Kinnear, John Cho, Kumail Nanjiani, Allison Tolman, Adam Scott and Jacob Tremblay.
In what will be her American TV debut, Cate Blanchett will play Phyllis Schlafly, the conservative firebrand "who was one of the most polarising figures of the 70s for her opposition to and role in defeating the Equal Rights Amendment". Emmy-winning Mad Men writer Dahvi Waller is at the helm of the mini-series.
Lisa Hanawalt, the designer of the Bojack Horseman characters, now brings another animated show about animals. This one's about "the friendship between two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same building". Tuca is "a cocky, care-free toucan" voiced by Tiffany Haddish and Bertie is "an anxious daydreaming songbird" voiced by Ali Wong.
