Everything You Need To Know About BookMyShow’s New Streaming Platform

Another week, another new streaming platform.

BMS Stream, the official OTT platform of ticketing and events hub BookMyShow is the latest streamer in town.  Launched earlier this month, BMS Stream follows a pay-per-view model and boasts of a library of hundreds of movies across Hollywood blockbusters, Indian titles and an impressive roster of world cinema, with new titles added every Friday.

How Does It Work?

Each title can be bought (for permanent download) or rented for a period of 30 days, though once you start watching you'll have only two days to complete it. Cost for rental of most titles is less than Rs 100. Some of the movies are exclusives, particularly the world cinema titles, while others are available on other platforms, but BMS Stream gives you the flexibility of pay-per-view at a reasonable price point rather than having to deal with yet another monthly subscription.

Below are some of our recommendations of great movies on the platform:

Ash Is Purest White (2018)

Exclusively on the platform is celebrated director Jia Zhangke's Ash Is Purest White,  which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The Chinese film spans 17 years and follows both the turbulent love story of two people and the rapid expansion and social, political and economic transformation of a nation. Despite the grand scale, Ash Is Purest White is a deeply intimate and personal film which deals with individual loss, and growth amid nationwide upheaval.

Tenet (2020)

Christopher Nolan's latest mind-bending blockbuster is among the buzzy Hollywood titles on the platform. Blending massive action with a plot designed to confound, Tenet is easily Nolan's most ambitious work to date. A hot mess of stellar set pieces, quantum physics, paradoxes and time loopiness, expect to come away confused and desperate for aggressive googling and repeated viewings. Good thing you get 2 whole days, if you rent it, to watch it as many times as you'd like.

Kumbalangi Nights (2019)

One of the most celebrated Indian films of the last few years, the Malayalam gem is among the big Indian titles on the platform. A tale of four brothers, Kumbalangi Nights is a delicate family drama and a meditation on masculinity uplifted by stellar performances and a delectably distasteful Fahadh Faasil. While the film is on Amazon Prime Video, this let's you watch it for Rs 50 without the fuss of subscription.

Yomeddine (2018)

Another exclusive on the platform is Egyptian title Yomeddine. A buddy movie, road movie, character study and a coming-of-age movie all rolled into one, it follows a man afflicted with leprosy who decides to return to his hometown and find the parents who abandoned him. His unlikely partners in this journey – his beloved donkey and a 10-year-old orphan who come together in a heartbreaking tale told with profound empathy.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Into The Spider-Verse isn't just limited to being one of the best animated movies and one of the best superhero movies of recent years, it's also one of the most memorable coming of age stories. Visually dazzling and ridiculously fun, the clutter-breaking film brought genuine invention and heart to a character that's been revisited all too often.

Amar Akbar Anthony (1977)

Manmohan Desai's iconic film about three brothers who are separated in childhood and raised in different faiths has a galaxy of stars, a terrific performance by Amitabh Bachchan and Kader Khan's infinitely quotable dialogue. What more could you want? It's an unabashed, no-holds barred ode to unity in diversity and secularism, but most of all it's just a happy movie you want to constantly revisit.
