Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo (1958), starring James Stewart and Kim Novak has been ranked as the best film ever made by the 2012 British Film Institute's Sight & Sound critics' poll. Vertigo has also often appeared in polls for the best films by the American Film Institute, including a 2007 ranking of the ninth-greatest American movie of all time.
