These days it feels like a real challenge to keep up with what's dropping when on which platform, with new show announcements popping up all the time. That said, February promises to be an exciting start to the year in the world of streaming with a wide range of stories. From a dark comedy about mortality to Al Pacino's TV debut to more Narcos: Mexico, here are our picks of what's releasing this month across platforms.

Netflix

Taj Mahal 1989

When:  TBC

After last month's Jamtara, Viacom 18's Tipping Point Productions and Netflix's next collaboration, Taj Mahal 1989, is said to be 'a nostalgic exploration of love and longing set against the backdrop of the eponymous monument in Agra'.  With a rumoured cast which is said to include Neeraj Kabi and Geetanjali Kulkarni among others, this one certainly has our attention.

Narcos: Mexico Season2

When: February 13th

The popular spin-off to one of the most talked-about shows of the last decade returns for Season 2 with Diego Luna back as the ruthless Mexican drug lord Felix Gallardo who's out to build an empire whilst keeping his countless enemies at bay.

Locke And Key

When: February 7th

A fantasy-thriller based on the best-selling graphic novel series of the same name. Locke & Key follows 3 siblings who, after the murder of their father, move to their ancestral home only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Expect much trippy fun.

Amit Tandon: Family Tandoncies

When: TBC

After being one of 3 Indian comics to be a part of Netflix ambitious 2019 stand up series Comedians Of The World featuring short sets from 47 comedians from across the world, Amit Tandon gets his very own Netflix special. The third Indian comic to do so after Vir Das and Aditi Mittal.

Puerta 7 

When: February 21st

Ozark and Narcos-writer Martin Zimmerman serves as creator of a promising new Argentinian series set in the world of organised crime surroudnign Argentinian football. Think Narcos but with football.

Gentefied

When: February 21st

A charming family comedy focused on three Latinx cousins working to keep their grandfather's taco shop afloat in their rapidly gentrifying LA neighbourhood. Expect a warm comfortable comedy about culture, community and family. 

Afsos

When: February 7th 

After a delay in release, Amazon Prime Video's next is finally back on track. The black comedy follows a suicidal man and a psychopath who encounter the world of immortality. If that doesn't pique your interest, nothing will. The show stars Gulshan Devaiah, Heeba Shah and Anjali Patil among others.

Hunters

When: February 21st

Al Pacino leads a team of Nazi hunters. Need we really say more? The highly-anticipated series features an all-star cast including Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and How I Met Your Mother's Josh Radnor among others.

Life Is Good (Stand Up Special By Ashish Shakya)

When: February 7th 

The latest comic on the Amazon Prime Video's stand up special list is AIB's Ashish Shakya. His new special promises to unleash a volley of jokes on everything from the ridiculousness of youth to stepmoms, terrorists, Bollywood, satire, romance and the pointlessness of existence.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

When: February 2nd

One of the most talked-about movies of last year, Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, gets a digital release ahead of the Oscars where it's raked up 10 nominations.

Kidding Season 2

When: February 10th

A sort of small screen A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood starring Jim Carrey. Sound good? Carrey stars as Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, an icon of children's television and a beacon of kindness whose family begins to implode. The result: a kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity in a show that's as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.

Homeland Season 8

When: February 10th

The final season of one of the hotly-discussed show promises to end with a bang. The last season of the Claire Danes-starrer sees CIA officer Carrie Mathison land up in Afghanistan to negotiate for peace till things take an unexpected turn for the worst.

Last Week Tonight With John Oliver

When: February 18th 

You'd be hardpressed to find a show as significant, hilarious, relevant and consistently great as John Oliver's now-iconic show which uses humour to talk about the things that matter.

The Oath

When: February 21st

The sophomore season of the action-packed drama explores a unique type of criminal gang that is made up of the very men and women who are sworn to uphold the law.

ALTBalaji

Class Of 2020

When: February 4th

The latest from ALTBalaji is an attempt to explore pressing issues faced by the youth – specifically sex which apparently is the only thing teenagers can think about. Think Pyaar Ka Punchnama: The College Days  the school days and you'll be in the right ballpark.

It Happened In Calcutta

When: February 29th 

Set in 70's Kolkata, the Ken Ghosh-directed series follows a love story set against the world of medicine. A young girl gets into Calcutta Medical College where she meets the handsome stud of the college and falls in love with him. The show will also be available on ZEE5.

Apple TV

Visible: Out on Television

When: February 14th

Documentary series Visible: Out on Television investigates how the LGBTQ movement has shaped television. Combining archival footage with interviews with key players from the movement and the screen, the docuseries features interviews with Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah Winfrey, Anderson Cooper, and dozens more.

ZEE5

Shukranu

When: February 14th

A slice-of-life film based on the sterilization drive which was forced upon individuals during the emergency rule in India in 1976.  Divyendu stars as a common man forced to undergo sterilisation which impacts his marriage, love life and peace of mind.

Operation Parindey

When: February 28th 

Another original film, this one starring Amit Sadh, Operation Parindey is an action thriller focused on a high-stakes jailbreak directed by Sanjay Gadhvi of the Dhoom franchise.

Topless

When: February 11th 

A Tamil original series based on a century-old nude painting which creates ripples at an auction, as a religious politician and others bid to win the artwork.

Chadarangam

When: February 20th 

An original Telugu political drama series starring Srikanth, Nagineedu, Kousalva and Sunaina, the story follows an actor who turns into a politician to serve his people.

Just Human Things

YouTube channel Just Human Things offers up a promising comedy about two IT employees trying to brave the apocalypse as they try and face the horrors of both aliens and boredom.
