Disney+ Hotstar has announced its slate of 7 major Bollywood films to be released exclusively on its platform, in what they’re calling Disney+ Hotstar Multiplex.

The slate was announced over a virtual-press conference hosted by Varun Dhawan, Uday Shankar – President, The Walt Disney Company APAC and Chairman, Star & Disney India along with stars Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan and Alia Bhatt.

Before the announcement of the films, Varun Dhawan went around the group asking fellow stars how they’ve been spending lockdown, at one point even asking Uday Shankar when we can expect the IP.

Last week the platform announced that the Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film Dil Bechara will be releasing on July 24th, and will be available to subscribers and non subscribers alike to commemorate the late actor. The release date of the other 6 films are yet to be announced.

This marks the latest in a long line of direct-to-digital releases as a result of the pandemic, after Amazon Prime Video’s announcement a few weeks ago which included Gulabo Sitabo and the upcoming  Vidya Balan-starrer Shakuntala Devi.

Existing subscribers of Disney+ Hotstar Premium and Disney+ Hotstar VIP can enjoy these movies at no additional cost to their existing subscription. Non-subscribers can simply purchase an annual membership of Disney+ Hotstar VIP at INR 399/- a year.
