Khandaani Shafakhana Trailer Talk: Badshah Makes His Acting Debut In Another Small-Town-Comedy-Tackling-Taboos

Khandaani Shafakhana, from debut director Shilpi Dasgupta, is the latest from Bollywood's 'small-town-comedy-tackling-taboos' genre. With Sonakshi Sinha in the lead, this one sees the acting debut of rapper Badshah. The pressing social taboo up for grabs here is Indian society's refusal to openly discuss the topic of sex. Sinha's Baby Bedi is the girl who finds herself being left in charge of a sex clinic (seen as a shady, immoral establishment) and so begins a crusade to break the stigma and loosen up the community.

Badshah appears to be playing a heightened version of…Badshah – a flamboyant Punjabi hip hop artist who Sinha's character looks to use as a means of convincing society to address the forbidden topic. The film also features Fukrey's Varun Sharm and a supporting turn from Anu Kapoor, no doubt cast for his memorable role in the similarly-themed Vicky Donor.

Khandaani Shafakhana is the second small-town-comedy trailer to release in two days after Arjun Patiala which curiously offers a similar lead trio. There the actress is Kriti Sanon and the Punjabi-pop-star-turned-actor is Diljit Dosanjh. Both films have Varun Sharma as the third head for comic relief. Both films release on July 26th.
