Box Office Report: Sidharth Malhotra’s Yodha Has a Decent Opening Weekend

Pushkar Ojha and Sagar Ambre’s Yodha — a gripping hijack thriller backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions — finally hit the screens last week, after numerous delays. The film revolves around a high-stakes hijack operation and securing peaceful diplomatic relations with Pakistan and is helmed by Sidharth Malhotra and Disha Patani. The first weekend saw a collection of  Rs. 16.85 crore, according to Sacnilk Entertainment. While these are not massive numbers, they indicate the film is finding its audience. Malhotra's last theatrical release, Thank God (2022) made on a budget of approximately Rs. 70 crore, only managed to get a domestic net collection of Rs. 36.35 crore in its lifetime. His last hit film was Shershaah, which was released directly on OTT. According to Amazon, Shershaah was the most watched film on Prime Video in India.

In its opening weekend collection, Yodha collected Rs. 4.1 crore on Friday; Rs. 5.75 crore on Saturday, and witnessed a notable surge of 21.74% on Sunday, amounting to Rs. 7 crore. Released alongside the film were Kung Fu Panda 4, which has made Rs. 11.25 crores, and Bastar: The Naxal Story, which collected Rs 2.05 crores on their opening weekends respectively. Meanwhile, Shaitaan continues to enjoy packed theatres, crossing the coveted Rs. 100 crore mark this week, with the second Sunday earning being Rs. 9.75 crore.
