Anil Kapoor On Taking Inspiration From Gary Oldman For His Role In Takht

Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor are all part of Karan Johar's period drama Takht, said to be about the fight for the Mughal throne. While the film is scheduled for release sometime in 2020, Anil Kapoor, who plays Shah Jahan, spoke about already prepping to gain weight for his role:

"I've done my research. I keep on watching all these interviews. (Winston) Churchill was offered to Gary Oldman, who was as skinny and thin as me. When you reach a certain age it is not possible for you to transform yourself. When you're in your 40s and you're at that certain age, body structures are such that you can. But now he (Oldman) hired the best makeup artists, and that's the best Churchill you've ever seen. I've studied all his interviews and I've seen his performance. Obviously, I can't come up to that (level) because he is a great performer… You don't have to, just to give two articles in some magazine, say maine yeh moochi ugayi hai, mein itna mota ho gaya hoon, to put out those videos and try to market your film. Sometimes I feel: (Log) jitna kaam nahi karte, utni zyaada baatein karte hain. Hum log baatein kam karte hain, kaam zyaada karte hain. We're starting the film at the end of 2019, but I have a few things in mind which I'm going to discuss with Karan (Johar). Of course, I'll do exactly what my director tells me."
