Touted to be India’s first stoner film, Kili Poyi, starring Asif Ali and Aju Varghese and directed by Vinay Govind, enjoys its own fan base. The film, which premiered on March 1, 2013, recently completed seven years of release. Its success was an indication of the audience opening up to experiments and films in never-before-seen genres in the language.  Written by the trio of Vinay Govind, Vivek Ranjit and Joseph Kurian, the film was a tribute to Dasan and Vijayan, the iconic Mohanlal-Sreenivasan combo from the Nadodikaatu series.
