The second film in Vishal Bhardwaj's Shakespeare trilogy, Omkara is a violent saga of romance, betrayal, politics, and much more. An adaptation of one of the bard's most famous tragedies 'Othello', it takes these well-known characters to the rustic hinterlands of Uttar Pradesh. Starring Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Vivek Oberoi in the leading roles and supported by Naseeruddin Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma, Bipasha Basu and Deepak Dobriyal, the film has now acquired a cult status and continues to be remembered for its performances, music and dialogues.

The opening lines of the film try to answer a  conundrum that surrounds these foul-mouthed, gun-toting men we see – who is the greater fool? It is in this world that we find Omkara (Ajay), who is a bahubali, a political enforcer under the aegis of Bhaisaab (Naseeruddin). His lieutenants are Keshav 'Kesu' Firangi (Vivek), and the cunning Ishwar 'Langda' Tyagi (Saif). What follows from here is a dramatic turn of events resulting from the devilish schemes of Langda Tyagi, whose jealousy towards Omkara triggers off a savage tragedy of epic proportions.

The film received rave reviews upon its release and numerous awards, including three National Awards and seven Filmfare Awards. The dialogues, penned by the director himself, were appreciated for their authenticity. Omkara's music was also popular, spawning dance hits like "Beedi" and soulful tracks such as "Naina" and "Saathi Re", all written by Gulzar and composed by Vishal.

Omkara is a modern classic and is remembered as a milestone in Hindi cinema. The film's story was adapted for the screen by Vishal; the filmmaker co-authored the screenplay with Abhishek Chaubey and Robin Bhatt.
