In the age of hybrid workforces, many more of us are relying on streaming platforms in search of distraction, escape or just plain entertainment. With a new month comes new possibilities, talent, collaborations and shiny new releases for us to get lost in.

From Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon to Alia Bhatt's first production venture Darlings, here is a list of what's releasing this month across platforms.

Darlings

When: August 5

A woman (Alia Bhatt) seeks revenge on her alcoholic husband (Vijay Varma) and enlists her mother (Shefali Shah)'s help with the plot.

The Sandman

When: August 5

Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), the king of dreams, breaks from after nearly a century of imprisonment and embarks on a journey to reclaim what was stolen from him. The series has been adapted from Neil Gaiman's comic of the same name.

Indian Matchmaking Season 2

Over eight episodes, professional Mumbai matchmaker Sima Taparia helps clients around the world find their ideal partner.

Never Have I Ever Season 3

Jamie Foxx plays a vampire killer who operates under the guise of a cleaner.

Delhi Crime Season 2

Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, and Rajesh Tailang return for season 2 of the crime thriller series, in which the Delhi police attempt to catch a serial killer.

The drama series follows eight students who move to Kota to study at its two biggest rival coaching institutes. There is friendship and first love, but also intense pressure and competition.

Thirteen Lives 

When: August 10

Directed by Ron Howard, the film chronicles the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue, in which a junior football team and their coach were trapped in a cave for 18 days.

Peacemaker

When: August 14

The eight-episode The Suicide Squad (2021) spinoff follows Peacemaker (John Cena) after he awakes at a hospital and is recruited to join the mysterious Project Butterfly.

Samaritan

When: August 26

A young boy suspects that his reclusive neighbour (Sylvester Stallone) might actually be a famed superhero who went missing 25 years ago.

I Am Groot

When: August 10

A collection of five animated original shorts starring Baby Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) follows the Guardians of the Galaxy character as he grows up.

Cadaver

When: August 12

Amala Paul plays a forensic surgeon in this thriller directed by Anoop S Panicker.

She Hulk: Attorney At Law

When: August 19

Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) is an attorney who specialises in superhuman-related legal cases. She's also a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered Hulk. This latest MCU installment is a 6-episode comedy series.

House of the Dragon

When: August 22

Set 300 years before events of Game of Thrones, the series depicts the rise and fall of the Targaryen dynasty.

Apple TV+

Five Days at Memorial 

When: August 12

Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Sheri Fink's book, the eight-episode limited series chronicles the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and its impact on a local hospital.

Bad Sisters

When: August 19

The Garvey sisters (Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle, Sarah Greene and Eve Hewson) are a tight-knit bunch. When their brother-in-law winds up dead, his life insurers begin to suspect the women, all of whom had reason to kill him.

The Humans

Three generations of a family gather to celebrate Thanksgiving at an apartment in Manhattan. As the evening progresses, their deepest fears are exposed. The film premiered at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival.
