Indian movie theatres are finally opening up again. But the return of theatres in our lives begs many questions. What will it look like? What are the rules and restrictions? How different will the experience be? Will there be a gap between seats? And perhaps most of all – what can people watch? We’ve compiled a list, sourced from exhibitors and trade experts, of all the big releases across that make up the first wave of Indian films set to hit the big screen in October and November.
Hollywood Films
My Spy – 16th October
Region: Pan India
Dave Bautista stars as a hardened CIA operative who finds himself at the mercy of a precocious 9-year-old girl, having been sent undercover to surveil her family.
Force Of Nature – 23rd October
Region: Pan India
Mel Gibson stars as a cop who encounters a group of thieves while trying to evacuate people from a building during a hurricane.
The Rental – 30th October
Region: Pan India
Dave Franco’s directorial debut follows a festive weekend for four close friends which turns into something far more sinister as secrets they’ve kept from each other are exposed and paranoia grows that they may not be alone.
Ford Vs Ferrari – 15th October
Region: Karnataka
The Oscar-nominated biopic will be releasing in INOX cinemas in Karnataka.
Parasite – 15th October
Region: Karnataka
Bong Joon-Ho’s awards darling will be among those shortlisted to release in INOX cinemas.
Knives Out – 15th October
Region: Karnataka
Rian Johnson’s sprawling whodunnit led by an electric cast is among those shortlisted by INOX cinemas.
Lion King – 15th October
Region: Karnataka
Disney’s live action-ish reimagining of the animated classic will fill out the ‘family film’ quotient in INOX cinemas’s first wave of releases.
Hindi Films
Khaali Peeli – 16th October
Region: Pan India
The Ishaan Khatter-Ananya Panday starrer follows a kaali peeli driver who gets into a muddy racket caused by one of his cab-farers. The film is also available to watch online on Zee Plex.
Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari – 13th November
Region: Pan India
Starring Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Vijay Raaz and others, the ensemble comedy follows a ‘wedding detective’ who’s latest case turns into a cat and mouse chase.
Kedarnath – October 15th
Region: West Bengal
In memory of Sushant Singh Rajput, cinemas in West Bengal will be re-releasing romantic drama Kedarnath.
PM Narendra Modi – October 15th
Region: Pan India
The controversial biopic starring Vivek Oberoi will be among the first Hindi films to release according to trade experts.

Thappad – October 15th
Region: Karnataka
Anubhav Sinha’s latest blistering social drama, this time taking on domestic violence, will be among those releasing in INOX cinemas in Karnataka.
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan – October 15th
Region: Karnataka
The Ayushmann Khurrana-Jitendra Kumar small town comedy centered on a same-sex relationship will also be releasing in INOX cinemas.
Tamil Films
Ka Pae Ranasingam – 16th October
Region: Pan India
The political drama starring Vijay Sethupathi and Aishwarya Rajesh is among the few Tamil films to have a confirmed release. The film is also available to watch online on Zee Plex.

Dracula Sir – 21st October

Rohan Sen’s film features Joy Sengupta as a director who wants to move out of his comfort zone of thrillers by attempting a love story.
Guldasta – 21st October
Region: Bengal
Stories of three women (Swastika Mukherjee, Arpita Chatterjee and Debjani Chatterjee) are interconnected in Arjun Dutta’s film.
Doodh Pither Gaachh – 21st October
Region: Bengal
Ujjwal Basu’s film has a touch of magic realism in its premise: a small boy in a village plants a pithe (a Bengali sweet-dish) and hopes it’ll grow into a tree.
