Amazon Prime Video updates its catalogue more than the number of times you order in “healthy” snacks (steamed momos, looking at you).
From an uproarious comedy about boys on a trip to Goa and a disillusioned patriot fighting for his marriage (and the nation) to some wholesome romances with a musical twist, there are many new movies on Amazon Prime Video for you to check out. Here are our five recommendations.
If you have already watched and enjoyed any of these films, share this list with anyone who’s behind on their streaming list and would like to catch up this weekend.
Kunal Kemmu wrote and directed this new movie on Amazon Prime Video as an ode to every buddy comedy movie, including The Hangover franchise, Dil Chahta Hai (2001), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), and other iconic guy road trip films. The inspiration from the latter two films was expected, given that Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, who produced Madgaon Express, were also involved in those projects.
This film is a laugh-riot that explores the lives and shenanigans of the trio of friends Dodo (Divyenndu), Pinku (Pratik Gandhi), and Ayush (Avinash Tiwari). They, just like Akash (we request you to say his name at the pitch his girlfriend in the film did), played by Aamir Khan, Sameer (Saif Ali Khan) and Sid (Akshaye Khanna) in Dil Chahta Hai (2001), have finally made plans to go to Goa, albeit after multiple failed attempts.
The choice of transport? The Madgaon Express train which is one of the many signs to hide the fact that one of them is not as rich as the others.
The film has the quintessential gags, memorable punch lines, and some coked-up Gujarati gangsters to fuel the plot and the comedy. Kemmu’s underrated comedic timing, which is also apparent in his acting, shines through in his directorial debut, and it’s a must-watch for anyone who wants nostalgic boys’ trip vibes.
For Sidharth Malhotra fans who enjoyed his patriot persona in Shershaah (2021), Mission Majnu (2023), and Police Force (2024), Yodha is yet another film from the same category which is worth watching.
This new movie on Amazon Prime Video is full of action, occasionally silly, and overall quite emotional. It has its share of twists that you may or may not be able to predict, and the masala monologues are spicy and well-placed if you enjoy the “we have to save our nation” vibe of other patriotic films like Fanaa (2006), Lakshya (2004), and Rang De Basanti (2006).
‘Yodha’ refers to a specialised task force started by Arun’s (Sidharth Malhotra) late father (Ronit Roy).
As a Yodha who prioritises the success of a mission over protocol, Arun is always ruffling feathers at the headquarters, especially with his wife Priyamvada (Raashii Khanna), a government official who is responsible for helping with hostage situations and hijacks that often involve Arun.
This hijack thriller will leave you with a cocktail of emotions, a bunch of questions about the logistics and logic of some of the scenes, and new additions to your playlist with the film’s melodious tracks.
A Malayalam film about college tiffs that involves gangsters? This new movie on Amazon Prime Video is hitting a high note right from the opening scene. As the film takes you through the lives of Aju (Hipzster), Bibin (Mithun Jai Shankar), and Shanthan (Roshan Shanavas), three Kerala boys new to the city of Bangalore for college, you will get a hit of nostalgia if you ever lived in a boys’ hostel and had that almost-spiritual journey of independence, fun, and barely bathing.
When the boys get into a clash with a senior student Kutty (Midhutty), they enlist the help of Ranga (Fahadh Faasil), a local gangster who is full of sugar and spice and everything nice, so you know he will beat up someone for you if he’s fond of you. Faasil is the star of this show, and every minute he’s on screen, you get your money’s and time’s worth.
The playful narrative and intentional inclusion of random moments and scenes that serve no other purpose than being fun make Aavesham an exhilarating watch.
This coming-of-age romantic comedy brings out the symphonies of life, literally and figuratively. Rudy (Rudy Mancuso) experiences life primarily through sound due to a disorder called synesthesia. He’s distracted all the time, and his girlfriend Haley (Francesca Reale) and mother Maria (Maria Mancuso) want him to be attuned (pardon the pun) to his life goals.
When he meets Isabella (Camila Mendes), his life changes for the better. This new movie on Amazon Prime Video is a personal account of and by Rudy Mancuso, who wrote and directed the film, wrapped up in a musical love story.
Telugu cinema is known to defy genres, and this new movie on Amazon Prime Video combines drama, action, and romance to present the story of Indu (Mrunal Thakur) and Govardhan (Vijay Devarakonda) and their wild journey as a couple through twists and turns.
If family dramas are your cup of tea, you may enjoy this film for its relatable storyline around the themes of family responsibilities and bonding with ideals like ego, trust, and human connections. The plot is propelled by solid performances from Thakur and Devarakonda.
