Are you ready for the most highly anticipated film of the year? Ready to be blown away by an action-packed, edge-of-your-seat thriller? Every year, lovers of all things Bollywood eagerly wait for that one film from their favourite superstar. This year however, Shah Rukh Khan’s fans are over the moon! After a four-year hiatus, Khan is back with not one but two movies! With Pathaan (2023) earlier this year already making waves, our expectations for Khan’s next, Jawan (2023) are through the roof.
The buzz surrounding this film is unprecedented, the film has given its distribution rights to T-Series for a monument fee: there aren’t many movies that manage to earn Rs. 250 crore before they even release! A lot has been kept under wraps to maintain the excitement. Just yesterday, they released ‘Zinda Banda’ and it’s already raking in the views. Here’s all we know about Jawan so far:
The film revolves around a commando named Vikram played by Khan who is on a mission to bring societal reform. Vikram and a group of formidable women will come together for this good-looking, ass-kicking adventure.
The cast of Jawan includes Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Sunil Grover, Yogi Babu and others. A truly Pan-Indian star cast helmed by director Atlee. They even released a poster with Sethupathi as “The Dealer of Death”.
Khan's character in Jawan is named Vikram. He is also playing another character named Azaad. This isn’t the first time we’ll see Khan in a double role, but we hope this will be better than the last time we saw him do it in Fan (2016).
Every good cameo is memorable, and Jawan has some really exciting cameos this year. Deepika Padukone will be seen in a special appearance, Girija Oak Godbole plays a key role in the film, and Sanjay Dutt joins the cast for what has been described as a brief but effective and action-packed cameo.
Atlee is a highly acclaimed director in the South Indian film industry, predominantly working in Tamil cinema. In a relatively short span of time, he has carved out a niche for himself and become one of the most sought-after directors in the industry. He made three hit films Theri (2016), Mersal (2017), and Bigil (2019). His films have consistently performed well at the box office, making him a superstar director in his own right.
This is S. Ramana Girivasan’s fourth consecutive collaboration with director Atlee (who has also co-written the script of Jawan). The dialogues are by Sumit Arora, best known for writing Stree (2018), ‘83 (2021) and The Family Man. Anirudh Ravichander, who is currently at the top of his game, has composed the film's soundtrack and background score. Atlee has retained most of his technicians for this action adventure. The cinematography is by G. K. Vishnu, and the editor is Ruben who have previously worked with Atlee on blockbusters like Mersal and Bigil.
The Jawan “prevue” gave us a two-minute glimpse into the film’s world. Khan’s voiceover, velvety with menace, reminded viewers how good the actor is at playing the anti-hero. The prevue also featured a rap segment by Grammy-nominated rapper Raja Kumari and a stunning shot in which Padukone flips a hapless man to the ground in slow-mo. In 24 hours, Jawan became the most watched Indian teaser with over 112 million views.
Jawan is scheduled to release on September 7, 2023 in theatres worldwide.
