Dr. Shivarajkumar joins the cast of Dhananjaya’s Uttarakanda (Kannada)

The makers of the crime drama Uttarakanda recently announced that Dr. Shivarajkumar would be joining the cast and would play a pivotal role. The film stars Daali Dhananjaya who reunites with director Rohit Padakki after the family drama Ratnan Prapancha. Shivanna and Dhananjaya have previously collaborated on the films Tagaru and Bhairagi where the latter played the antagonist. The role of Shivanna in Uttarakanda is yet to be revealed with the title teaser indicating that Dhananjaya would be playing an antihero. 

Uttarakanda is written and directed by Rohit Padakki. The film also stars Ramya and Diganth in pivotal roles. The film is produced by Karthik Gowda and Yogi G Raj under the KRG Studios banner. Arvind S Kashyap of Kantara and Hostel Hudugru Bekagiddare fame will be handling the cinematography while Charan Raj will be composing the music for the film.

Rishab Shetty to launch Kantara prequel soon (Kannada)

Rishab Shetty’s spiritual thriller Kantara opened to phenomenal responses in 2022, with the film earning ₹450 crores at the box office. The film follows the conflict between a group of hunters in a village in South Karnataka who are part of the community that performs the Daiva Aaradhane pooja, and the forest department.

After the mammoth success, Shetty is all set to delve into the world of Kantara yet again with a prequel. The actor had previously announced that he would be exploring the character of the father of Shiva in the prequel and that it would be a much larger film. Rishab Shetty and the producers Hombale Films are all set to reveal the first look of Kantara: Chapter 1 on November 27.

Nagashekhar’s Sanju Weds Geetha 2 gets a release window (Kannada)

The tragic romantic drama Sanju Weds Geetha recently received a sequel which is set to star Srinigara Kitty and Rachita Ram in lead roles. The film sees Nagashekhar return to the world of Sanju Weds Geetha, which starred Kitty and Ramya. The director mentioned that he was hoping to release the film by April 1, 2024. He also mentioned that the trailer of the film would be released on December 29.

Sanju Weds Geetha 2 is written and directed by Nagashekar and is backed by Chalavadi Kumar. The film also stars Sadhu Kokila and Rangayana Raghu. Shridhar Sambhram handles the music while Satya Hegde handles the cinematography.

Likith Kumar wraps filming Vritta (Kannada)

The debut feature film of Likith Kumar Vritta recently wrapped filming. Said to be a thriller, the film stars debutant Mahir Mohiuddin and Chaithra J Achar of Sapta Sagaradaache Ello fame. It also stars debutant Harini Sundar Rajan. The filmmakers reportedly opted for sync sound. The team released a motion poster a few days ago, which shows the protagonist Mahir looking intensely while a spiral freeway surrounds him.

Vritta is directed by Likith Kumar from a story by Yogesh Gowda and a screenplay by Shankar Raman S. The film is backed by T Shivakumar under the Lakshay Arts banner. Gowtham Krishna is the cinematographer while Anthony MG and Hari Krishanth S will handle the music.

Nani’s Hi Nanna gets a trailer (Telugu)

Actor Nani, who was last seen in the action entertainer Dasara, will be next seen in the romantic drama Hi Nanna. The makers of the film recently released the trailer, which shows Nani as a single father. The trailer hints at a love story between Nani and the character played by Mrunal Thakur, while the daughter hopes to find the true story of her mother’s absence.

Hi Nanna is directed by Shouryuv and is backed by Mohan Cherukuri and Dr. Vijender Reddy Tegala under the Vyra Entertainment banner. The film has music by Hesham Abdul Wahab and cinematography by Sanu John Varghese. The film also stars Baby Kiara K and Shruti Haasan in pivotal roles. The film is set to release on December 7.

Naga Chaitanya's next gets a title (Telugu)

On the occasion of Naga Chaitanya's birthday, the makers of his next film unveiled the title. The film, which was known as NC23, is now titled Thandel. The film is said to be a survival thriller set in the sea. It is directed by Chandoo Mondeti of Kartikeya 2 fame. The announcement came with a first-look poster that shows Chaitanya in a rugged look as he sits atop a boat amidst a stormy sea.

Thandel also stars Sai Pallavi, who reunites with Naga Chaitanya after Shekhar Kuammula’s Love Story. It is backed by Bunny Vasu and presented by Allu Aravind under the Geetha Arts banner. Devi Sri Prasad is handling the music while Shamdat is handling the cinematography.

Mani Sharma joins as the music director of Double iSmart (Telugu)

Ram Pothineni and Puri Jagannadh are all set to reunite with Double iSmart. The film is a sequel to their 2019 hit film iSmart Shankar. The makers have now announced that Mani Sharma, who also scored for the original, will be composing music for the sequel. The team shared a photo of Mani Sharma, Pothineni, Jagganadh, and producer Charmie Kaur together.

Double iSmart is backed by Jagannadh and Kaur under the Puri Connects banner. Giani Gianneli handles the cinematography of the film. It is all set to release in multiple languages on March 8, 2024.

Naga Chaitanya’s web series debut gets a trailer (Telugu)

Naga Chaitanya is all set to make his web series debut with Amazon Prime Video’s Dhootha. The makers released the first trailer of the thriller series on the occasion of the actor’s birthday. The series sees Chaitanya as a journalist who encounters a mysterious incident involving a future-predicting cartoon that predicts certain murders. The journalist then goes on to be involved in a deep conspiracy that involves politicians and police officers.

Dhootha is directed by Vikram K Kumar of Manam fame and is backed by Sharrath Marar under the NorthStar Entertainment banner. The series stars Naga Chaitanya, Prachi Desai, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Priya Bhavani Shankar. The series will be premiering on Amazon Prime Video on December 1.

Ammu Abhirami and Keerthi Pandan starrer Kannagi gets a release date (Tamil)

The makers of the drama Kannagi recently revealed the first look of the film. The poster shows the belly of a woman with a small baby step on it, hinting at a story that delves into pregnancy. The title Kannagi refers to the historical character in Ilango Adigal’s Sangam epic Silapathikaram. Kannagi sets fire to the town of Madurai in the epic as she is angry at the king who killed her husband unjustly.

The film stars Keerthi Pandian and Ammu Abhirami in the lead roles and is directed by Yashanth Kishore in his debut directorial. The film has music by Shaan Rahman and cinematography by T Ramji. It is backed by M Ganesh and J Dhanush under the ES Entertainment and Skymoon Entertainment banner. The film has been in production since 2020 and it is finally set to release on December 15.

The first single from Dhanush’s Captain Miller is here (Tamil)

The first single of the Dhanush starrer Captain Miller is out now. Titled ‘Killer Killer’, the song is composed by GV Prakash Kumar and has vocals by Dhanush himself. The song has lyrics by Kaber Vasuki and has a generous mix of both Tamil and English. The single was accompanied by a lyrical video which also showed some footage from the film.

Captain Miller is written and directed by Arun Matheswaran of Rocky fame. The period action film also stars Priyanka Mohan, Dr. Shivarajkumar, Sundeep Kishan, and Edward Sonnenblick. The film is backed by Sendhil and Arjun Thyagarajan under the Satya Jyothi Films banner. It has cinematography by Siddhartha Nuni and editing by Nagooran Ramachandran. The film is set to release in January 2024 for Pongal.

The release of Vikram’s Dhruva Natchathiram has been pushed (Tamil)

The makers of the action film Dhruva Natchathiram have announced that their release has been postponed again. The Gautham Vasudev Menon directorial was in production since 2016 and was shelved until earlier this year when it was announced that the film would be released on November 24. However, a day before the release, Menon announced that it was postponed yet again without a definite date.

Dhruva Natchathiram is directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and written by Menon and Deepak Venkateshan. It stars an ensemble cast of Vikram, Ritu Varma, Vinayakan, Simran, R Parthiban, and Radhika Sarathkumar. It has music by Harris Jayaraj and major cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa, with other cinematographers such as SR Kathir, Vishnu Dev, Jomon T John, and Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran taking over during a few schedules. It is backed by Menon under his Ondraga Entertainment banner.

Zee5’s new Tamil web series to revolve around Veerappan (Tamil)

The streaming platform Zee5 has announced that a new docu-series centered around the forest brigand Veerappan would be released. Titled Koose Munisamy Veerappan, the docuseries is centered around the controversial poacher who was killed in an encounter by the police in 2004. The series is set to feature real footage of the people close to him and will also feature an interview with Veerappan himself. It is directed by Sharath Jothi and is created by Jeyachandra Hashmi, Prabhavathi RV, and Vasanth Balakrishnan. It will be streaming on Zee5 from December 8.

Raj B Shetty joins the cast of Turbo (Malayalam)

The makers of the Mammootty starrer Turbo recently announced that Kannada actor and director Raj B Shetty would be joining the cast as the antagonist. The film would be Shetty’s second Malayalam film after the upcoming Aparna Balamurali starrer Rudhiram. Turbo is directed by Vysakh, who collaborates with Mammootty for the third time.

Turbo is directed by Vysakh and written by Midhun Manuel Thomas. It is backed by Mammootty’s production house Mammootty Kampany and will be distributed by Dulquer Salman’s Wayfarer Films. The film has music by Justin Varghese.

Dhyan Sreenivasan’s Cheena Trophy gets a release date (Malayalam)

The makers of the comedy Cheena Trophy starring Dhyan Sreenivasan announced the release date of the film. It will be hitting cinemas on December 8. The film is directed by Anil Lal and produced by Anoop Mohan, Ashlin Mary Joy, and Lijo Ulahannan under the Presidential Movies banner. It also stars Kenti Seerdo, KPAC Leela, Jaffer Idukki, Chef Pillai, and more. Sooraj Santhosh and Varkey will compose the music while Santhosh Anima will handle its cinematography.
