Here’s a recap of the significant stories in entertainment across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films, and sometimes the odd television series as well.

Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu gets a re-release date (Tamil)

The makers of Kamal Haasan's 2006 blockbuster Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu announced that the film would be re-released in theatres on June 23rd. The new release is supposed to be a remastered version of the film. Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu was lauded upon release for its realistic depiction of a police procedural story as well as for giving a mature romance to the lead pair of Kamal and Jyotika.

The technical aspects of the film including Ravi Varman’s cinematography and Anthony’s editing were also appreciated. Harris Jayaraj’s music coupled with Thamarai’s lyrics topped the charts upon release, continuing their winning streak with the director. The re-release is presented by Manickam Narayan, who produced the film under the Seventh Channel Communications banner while YMR Creations are handling the release along with KM Sundaram Pictures.

Denzil Smith joins the cast of Leo (Tamil)

Actor Denzil Smith recently confirmed his participation in the Thalapathy Vijay starrer Leo. The actor who is known for his roles in TenetThe Lunchbox and Delhi Crime posted a news clipping about the casting on his Instagram, thus confirming the news. He joins the already extensive cast of Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Mansoor Ali Khan, Mysskin, Gautam Vasudev Menon, Priya Anand, Mathew Thomas and more.

Leo is directed by Lokesh Kannagaraj and is his second collaboration with Vijay after the successful Master. Backed by SS Lalit Kumar and Jagadish Palaniswamy under the banner Seven Screen Studio, the action film is said to be partly inspired by David Cronenberg’s A History of Violence. Anirudh Ravichander composes the music for the film, making Leo his third collaboration with Lokesh, while Manoj Paramahamsa and Philomin Raj handle the cinematography and editing departments, respectively. Anbariv, the people behind the action sequences of the KGF series and Lokesh’s own Vikram are the stunt coordinators of the film. It is set to release on October 19.

Release date of Varun Tej’s Gandeevadhari Arjuna announced (Telugu)

The makers of Varun Tej's Gandeevadhari Arjuna recently announced that the action entertainer will be released on August 25. The film is directed by Praveen Sattaru, who previously directed Nagarjuna’s The GhostGandeevadhari Arjuna is backed by Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra and also features Sakshi Vaidya. The film has music by Mickey J Meyer and cinematography by Mukesh.

Sivakarthikeyan finishes dubbing for Maaveeran (Tamil)

The makers of the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Maaveeran recently announced that the actor had finished dubbing for the film. The actor is currently on a social media break while he shoots for his next with Rajkumar Periyasamy. Maaveeran is directed by Madonne Ashwin of Mandela fame and is backed by Shanthi Talkies. It also stars Aditi Shankar, Mysskin, Yogi Babu and Saritha. It features music by Bharat Shankar while Vidhu Ayyanna and Philomin Raj handle the cinematography and editing respectively. The film is set to release on July 14. This would be Sivakarthikeyan’s first release of the year, with his next, Ayalan, set for a Diwali release.

Jayam Ravi’s Iraivan gets a release date (Tamil)

After the release of Agilan and the magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan II, actor Jayam Ravi is all set for his next release. The makers of his next, Iraivan have announced that the film will be released in theatres on August 25 in 4 languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

Directed by I Ahmed, Iraivan co-stars Nayanthara and has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Backed by Jayaram G and Sudhan Sundaram under the Passion Studios banner, the film has cinematography by Hari K Vedantam and editing by JV Manakanda Balaji.

NBK108 gets a title and a teaser (Telugu)

On the occasion of his birthday, the makers of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s 108th film unveiled the title as well as the teaser of the film. Titled Bhagvanth Kesari, the teaser shows NBK clashing with the character played by Arjun Rampal, who makes his Telugu debut. The film is billed to be a commercial entertainer that gives NBK ample scope to be a man of the masses.

Written and directed by Anil Ravipudi, who is known for films such as F2: Fun and Frustration and Sarileru NeekevaruBhagvanth Kesari also stars Kajal Agarwal and Sree Leela, although they do not make an appearance in the teaser. It is backed by Sahu Garapati and Harish Peddi under the Shine Screens banner. Thaman S scores the music while C Ram Prasad and Tammi Raju handle the cinematography and editing. The team aims for a Dusshera release.

Darshana Rajendran and Anupama Parameswaran join Praveen Kandregula’s next (Telugu)

Praveen Kandregula, who is known for the indie hit Cinema Bandi recently announced his next film. While Anupama Parameswaran headlines the film, the director recently announced that Malayalam actor Darshana Rajendran of Hridayam fame will also be featured in the film. This will be Darshana’s debut in Telugu cinema. While the plot details of the film are not revealed, it is speculated to be a travel film.

Trailer of Pasupathy’s Thandatti unveiled (Tamil)

The makers of the comedy film Thandatti recently released the trailer of the film. The Pasupathy starrer sees him play a constable who is assigned the task of finding the earrings of a deceased person, played by Rohini. The trailer hints at the film taking place during the course of the funeral.

Directed by Ram Sangaiah, the comedy is backed by Prince Pictures and also features Ammu Abhirami and Vivek Prasanna. KS Sundaramoorthy provides the music while Mahesh Mutthuswami and Shivanandeeswaran handle the cinematography and editing respectively. The film is set to release on June 23.

Madhura Manohara Moham gets a release date (Malayalam)

The directorial debut of noted costume designer Stephy Zaviour, called Madhura Manohara Moham is all set to release on June 16th. The director announced the release date on her social media handles. The family entertainer stars Sharafudheen, Rajisha Vijayan, Malavika BN, Bindu Panicker and Aarsha Chandini Baiju. The film is backed by B3M Creations and has music by Hesham Abdul Wahab with cinematography by Chandru Selva Raj.

Bhavana Menon’s next gets a title (Malayalam)

Actress Bhavana’s 86th film is titled The Door. The makers of the horror film recently released the first look poster. Directed by Jaiiddev, the film is currently in production. Produced by Naveen Rajan under Junedreams Studio, the film also stars Ganesh Venkatram, Jayaprakash, Nandhu and SriRanjini. It has music by Varun Unni. The film is set to release in five languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.

Vinay Rajkumar’s Gramayana relaunched (Kannada)

Vinay Rajkumar's rural-drama Gramayana recently relaunched with a new set of producers taking over the production. Directed by Devanur Chandru, the film was first launched in 2018 but was halted after 25 days of production. After being in limbo for a good five years, the project was finally relaunched with producers G Manoharan of Lahari Films and KP Sreekanth of Venus Entertainers. The launch event was attended by the cast and crew as well as prominent members of the industry including Upendra, Raghavendra Rajkumar, Raj B Shetty, Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar and Arun Sagar. The makers also released a poster.

Fahadh Faasil’s Dhoomam gets a trailer and release date (Malayalam)

Fahadh Faasil will next be seen in the crime thriller Dhoomam. Written and directed by Pawan Kumar of Lucia and UTurn fame, the team recently released the trailer of the film. The trailer opens with Fahad’s character pitching a no-smoking PSA ad that would be watched by everyone to a board of directors. The trailer then shows Fahadh and Aparna Balamurali planning to elope with a bag of money which puts them in the way of the wrong people.

The crime thriller also features Roshan Mathew, Vineeth Radhakrishnan, Anu Mohan and Achyuth Kumar. Dhoomam will be Pawan Kumar’s Malayalam debut as well as the debut for Hombale Films, known for Kantara and the KGF series. Vijay Kiragandur produces the film while Poornachandra Tejaswi SV composes the music. Preetha Jayaraman handles the cinematography while Suresh Arumugam handles the editing. The film is set to release on June 23.

Anish Tejeshwar, Gurunandan and Chikkanna unite for a comedy (Kannada)

Actor Anish Tejeshwar who is known for films such as Vasu Nan Pakka Commercial and Akira, is all set to co-star in a comedy with actors Gurunandan and Chikkanna. The yet-to-be-titled film was recently launched and will see the trio coming together for the first time. Gurunandan is known for playing the titular Raju in the campus comedy First Rank Raju. The film is directed by Chandramohan who has previously directed Double Engine and Brahmachari.
