Here’s a recap of the significant stories in entertainment across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films, and sometimes the odd television series as well.

Arun Vijay’s Mission releases a teaser (Tamil)

The makers of the action thriller Mission Chapter 1: Accham Yenbathu Illaiyae released its first teaser. The film stars Arun Vijay as a prisoner in a violent prison in London, and Amy Jackson as the jailer. The teaser shows glimpses of riots that happen within the prison and the high octane action sequences featuring Arun Vijay. The end of the teaser also suggests that Arun Vijay’s character has to escape the prison in order to meet his ill daughter.

Directed by AL Vijay, the film also stars Nimisha Sajayan, Abi Hassan and Baby Iyal. It is produced by Subaskaran under the Lyca Productions banner. GV Prakash Kumar scores the music while Sandeep K Vijay and Anthony handle cinematography and editing respectively.

Raghava Lawrence’s Rudhran drops a trailer (Tamil)

The makers of Raghava Lawrence starrer Rudhran unveiled the trailer of the film. Billed to be an action entertainer, the trailer shows the clash between Lawrence and the character played by Sarath Kumar (who reunite after Kanchana). The film also stars Priya Bhavani Shankar.

The film is produced and directed by S Kathiresan, in his directorial debut. He presents the film under his banner Five Star Creations LLP. GV Prakash Kumar provides music for the film while Sam CS provides the background score.

Silambarasan unveils the trailer for Raavana Kottam (Tamil)

Actor STR recently released the trailer for the Shanthanu Bhagyaraj starrer Raavana Kottam. The rural entertainer shows the tight-knit residents of a village who work in the Karuva forests. Higher officials and businessmen eye the resident Seemai Karuvela trees for profit and then sow the seeds of caste and politics. The villagers then grapple with the false accusations of murdering a few politicians.

The film is directed by Vikram Sugumaran of Madha Yaanai Kootam and also stars Prabhu and Anandhi. The film is produced by Kannan Ravi and has music by Justin Prabhakaran.

Yogi Babu’s Yaanai Mugathaan gets a trailer (Tamil)

The Ramesh Thilak and Yogi Babu starrer Yaanai Mugathan released a trailer for the film. The comedy centres around Thilak’s character who is a devotee of Lord Pillaiyar. The film also stars Urvashi, and is directed by Rejish Midhila, who also co-produces with Lijo James under The Great Indian Cinemas banner. Bharat Sankar handles the music while Karthik S Nair handles cinematography.

First look poster and teaser of Pushpa: The Rule is out (Telugu)

On the occasion of Allu Arjun’s birthday (on April 8th), the makers of the pan-Indian sensation Pushpa released the first look poster of the second chapter. It shows Allu Arjun’s Pushpa in a colourful and adorned avatar. Dressed like a Goddess, Pushpa holds a gun and has tridents behind him while wearing heavy ornaments. The makers also released a special video titled ‘Where is Pushpa?’ which gives us a glimpse into the world of Pushpa after the events of the first film.

The film is directed by Sukumar and is produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar under the Mythri Movie Makers banner. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Fahad Fasil and Dhananjaya who reprise their roles from the first film.

Shaakuntalam gets its final trailer (Telugu)

Director Gunshekar’s magnum opus Shaakuntalam is gearing up for release on April 14th. To promote the release, the makers of the film released a trailer. A retelling of poet Kalidasa’s Abhignana Shaakuntala, the film stars Samantha as the titular character. Dev Mohan plays the role of Prince Dushyantha who falls in love with Shakuntala while on a hunt in the forest. The film follows their relationship and the trials she faces as she goes back to the kingdom to reclaim her love.

The film also stars Mohan Babu, Gautami and Aditi Balan in supporting roles. Produced by Neelima Guna and distributed by Dil Raju, the film has music by veteran composer Mani Sharma.

Rashmika Mandanna announces her next film (Telugu)

Last seen in the Thalapathy Vijay starrer Varisu and the Hindi film Goodbye, actor Rashmika Mandanna recently unveiled the title of her next film. Titled Rainbow, the film is said to be a romantic fantasy centred around Rashmika’s character.

The film is directed by debutant Shantharuban and is being backed by SR Prabhu under his banner Dream Warrior Pictures. The film will be a Telugu-Tamil bilingual but will feature mostly Telugu artists. Rainbow also stars Dev Mohan in a pivotal role. It has music by Justin Prabhakaran and KM Bhaskaran handling the camera.

Sai Dharam Tej’s Virupaksha wraps up shooting (Telugu)

The makers of Sai Dharam Tej’s upcoming film recently announced that they had wrapped up filming. Titled Virupaksha, the makers announced on social media saying that one more song is left to be filmed.

Directed by Karthik Dandu, the film is written by Sukumar who is also a co-producer under Sukumar Writings. BVSN Prasad backs the project under the Sri Venkateshwara Cine Chitra banner. The film also features Samyuktha Menon and Brahmaji. The technical crew includes Ajaneesh Loknath as the music director and Shamdat Sainudeen as the cinematographer.

Ashiq Abu’s Neelavelicham releases a trailer (Malayalam)

The makers of the Tovino Thomas starrer Neelavelicham released the final trailer of the film. Based on the short story by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, the horror-thriller is directed by Ashiq Abu. It also stars Shine Tom Chacko, Rima Kallingal and Roshan Mathew. Tovino plays a writer who plans to stay in a house haunted by the spirit of Bhargavi. The film follows the events that follow once he moves in.

Co-written by Hrishikesh Bhaskaran, the film is produced by Ashiq Abu and Rima Kallingal with cinematography by Girish Gangadharan. The film is set to release on April 20th.

Bhavana Menon starrer Hunt gets a teaser (Malayalam)

The makers of director Shaji Kailas’ next film Hunt recently unveiled its teaser. The horror thriller stars Bhavana Menon as a PG resident in a medical school. The teaser sets the mood of the film with a creepy sound design and jump scares.

Written by Nikhil Anand, the film also stars Aditi Ravi in an important role. Other cast members include Renji Panicker, Anu Mohan and Ajmal Ameer. It is produced by K Radhakrishnan under Jayalakshmi Films.

Nadikalil Sundari Yamuna gets a motion poster (Malayalam)

The makers of the comedy Nadikalil Sundari Yamuna recently released the motion poster of the film. The Aju Varghese and Dhyan Sreenivasan starrer is said to be a comedy entertainer. It is directed by Vijesh Panathoor and Unni Vellara in their directorial debut. The film also stars many newcomers. Produced by Vilas Kumar and Simi Murali of Cinematica Films LLP, the film has Faizal Ali as the cinematographer and Rathin Radhakrishnan as the editor, with Arun Muralidharan handling the music. Nadikalil Sundari Yamuna is presented by ‘Waterman’ Murali, about whom the Jayasuriya biopic Vellam was based on.

Prithviraj releases the trailer for Aadujeevitham (Malayalam)

Based on the best-selling book by Benyamin, the makers of the survival drama Aadujeevitham recently released the trailer of the film. This is the first look from the film which is directed by Blessy and stars Prithviraj Sukumaran. After a leak of the trailer, which was created for film festivals, the makers decided to release it. The film follows the story of Najeeb, a Malayali immigrant who is enslaved as a goatherd in a Saudi Arabian farm. While the majority of the film is said to be silent, the film has both Malayalam and Arabic dialogues.

Adapted to the big screen by Blessy, the film also stars Amala Paul and Jimmy Jean-Louis. AR Rahman scores the music while Sunil KS and KU Mohanan handle cinematography. Ace editor Sreekar Prasad and Academy Award winning sound designer Resul Pookutty are also part of the technical crew.

Rangayana Raghu starrer gets its first teaser (Kannada)

The makers of the mystery film Agnyathavaasi released the teaser of the film. It stars Rangayana Raghu as the resident of a mysterious town who becomes a part of a murder investigation. 

Agnyaathavasi  is produced by Hemanth M Rao (the director of Godhi Banna Saadharana Mykattu and Kavaludaari) under his banner LostNFound Films. The film also stars Siddu Moolimani, Paavana and Ravi Shankar. This is director Janardhan Chikkanna's sophomore effort after Gultoo. The technical crew of the film include Charan Raj on music, Advaith Gurumurthy as the cinematographer and Bharat M C as the editor.

Yogesh to team with Head Bush director again (Kannada)

After the success of his debut venture Head Bush, director Shoonya is all set to begin his sophomore project. Similar to his debut, this will also be a gangster drama albeit not based on true events like the first one. Yogi, who played Ganga in Head Bush is set to reunite with the director in this yet-to-be-titled project. Produced by debutant Rajesh, the makers are yet to reveal any more details about the cast and crew.

Ramesh Aravind’s Shivaji Surathkal 2 gets a trailer (Kannada)

The sequel to the 2020 detective film Shivaji Surathkal recently got a trailer. The film follows the detective played by Ramesh Aravind in another case, one which connects him to the victim and the murderer. It would also explore the personal life of the detective.

Director Akash Srivastava returns for the sequel, while also serving as the writer and editor of the film. The film also stars Meghana Goankar, Radhika Narayan and Sangeetha Sringeri. The film is being distributed by KRG Studios.
