Arun Vijay plays a cop in the crime thriller Sinam (Tamil)

After Kuttram 23 and TamilRockerz, Arun Vijay dons the police uniform once again in Sinam. He comes across as a cop who works on intuitions and is rather violent in his approach. While this helps him solve cases, his unorthodox methods get him suspended. Sinam hits the screens on September 16.

Helmed by GNR Kumaravelan, Sinam co-stars Pallak Lalwani, Kaali Venkat, RNR Manohar and KSG Venkatesh. The film, which is produced by R. Vijayakumar, has music by Shabir Tabare Alam. While Gopinath has cranked the camera, A Rajamohammed has handled the editing.

Selvaraghavan’s Bakasuran is centered around sexual and cyber crimes (Tamil)

Selvaraghavan and Natraj Subramaniyan (Natty) team up for Bakasuran, directed by Mohan G of Draupathi (2020) and Rudra Thandavam (2021) fame. Natty plays a cop and Selvaraghavan’s character is out for revenge and kidnaps and hits several people. Bakasuran is produced by Mohan G under the banner GM Film Corporation. The film has music by Sam CS, cinematography by Farook J Basha, and editing by Devaraj S.

Nivin Pauly’s Saturday Night gets a teaser (Malayalam)

After Kayamkulam Kochunni (2018), Nivin Pauly reunites with director Rosshan Andrrews for Saturday Night. Billed as a comedy entertainer, the film follows the journey of four friends played by Nivin Pauly, Aju Varghese, Saiju Kurup, and Siju Wilson. The teaser of the film starts off with fun banter between friends attending their buddy’s wedding. But all is not well with these friends. 

Produced by Vinayaka Ajith, the film also stars Saniya Iyappan and Malavika Sreenath. While Aslam K Purayil is the DOP, T Shivanandeeswaran is the editor and Jakes Bejoy is the music composer of the film.

Sharwanand goes back in time to make things right in Oke Oka Jeevitham (Telugu, Tamil)

What if you could go back in time to make things right? Aadhi (Sharwanand) and his two friends (Vennela Kishore and Priyadarshi) get their hands on a time-travel machine designed by scientist Nassar. Each of the friends has a goal in life and going back to the past could help them, but it comes with its own complications, the film warns. 

The film also stars Ritu Varma and Amala Akkineni in important roles. The bilingual production will be released in Tamil as Kanam and will star Ramesh Thilak and Sathish in the place of Kishore and Priyadarshi. Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, the film has music by Jakes Bejoy and has been lensed by Sujith Sarang. The film will be released in theatres on September 9.

Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu trailer (Tamil) 

The trailer of Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu begins with an ominous voiceover, in Menon’s signature style: Sometimes, speaking the truth is much more difficult than narrating a story, the audience is warned, as the screen is cut to a young Silambarasan TR peeking out a moving train.

The film documents the rise of Muthu, a naive simpleton (played by Silambarasan TR), in a notorious world of crime. The trailer is led by Menon’s voiceover, documenting Muthu’s ascent in the Mumbai underworld. The 2-minute video also keeps switching between the different phases of Muthu’s life, introducing us to the various characters in Muthu’s universe: Radikaa Sarathkumar, Muthu’s mother, Siddhi Idnani, Muthu’s romantic interest, and Neeraj Madhav, who plays a character (with possibly queer notes) struggling to fit into the gritty world of crime. The AR Rahman musical will be released in the theatres on September 15.

Dr. Puneeth Rajkumar-starrer Luckyman gets a trailer (Kannada)

Luckyman is the Kannada remake of the Tamil film Oh My Kadavule (2020). Though Darling Krishna’s character marries his childhood best friend, he finds it hard to love her. It is then he is also introduced to his crush Meera. When he is unsure of what’s next, he is given a second chance at love. Also starring Sangeetha Sringeri & Roshini Prakash, Dr. Puneeth Rajkumar reprises the role of Vijay Sethupathi in the original. This romantic comedy entertainer is slated to hit the screens on September 9. 

Directed by S Nagendra Prasad, the film has a special song appearance by Prabhu Deva, The film also co-stars Nagabhushana, Arya, Sundar Raj, Sadhu Kokila, Rangayana Raghu, Yogaraj Bhat, Sudha Belwadi and Malavika Avinash. It is produced by PR Meenakshi Sundaram and R Sundara Kamaraj under the banner Parsa Pictures. V2 Vijay Vicky is the music director, Jeeva Shankar is the DOP and JV Manikanda Balaji is the editor. 

A glimpse of Hari Hara Veera Mallu feat. Pawan Kalyan (Telugu)

Celebrating Pawan Kalyan’s birthday, the makers released the first glimpse of his next film Hari Hara Veera Mallu. Playing the titular character, Pawan Kalyan is seen fighting in a wrestling competition. The glimpse video opens up with aerial shots of a palace and the competition and follows it up with a slow-motion visual of the fights and MM Keeravaani’s powerful music. 

Apart from Pawan Kalyan, the Krish Jagarlamudi directorial stars Niddhi Agerwal. The film is produced by A Dayakar Rao under the banner of Mega Surya Production. Gnanashekar VS is the DOP and Praveen KL is the editor. 

Biju Menon’s Oru Thekkan Thallu Case releases on September 8 (Malayalam)

Biju Menon and Padmapriya play a married couple Amminipillai and Rukmini in the revenge action entertainer Oru Thekkan Thallu Case. The conflict between Amminipillai and Roshan Mathew’s Podiyan seems to form the main plot. Nimisha Sajayan plays the romantic interest of Podiyan. 

Oru Thekkan Thallu Case is directed by Sreejith N and written by Rajesh Pinnadan. Based on GR Indugopan’s short novel Ammini Pilla Vettu Case, the film stars Biju Menon, Padmapriya, Roshan Mathew, Nimisha Sajayan, Akhil Kavalayoor, and Aswath lal. The film is produced by Mukesh R Mehta, Sunil AK, and CV Sarathi. While Madhu Neelakandan handles the camera, Manok Kannoth heads the editing and Justin Varghese scores the music. 

Alphonse Puthren’s Gold gets postponed (Malayalam)

Neram and Premam-fame Alphonse Puthren is gearing for the release of his next film Gold which also marks his comeback after seven years. The Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara-starrer was earlier scheduled to release on September 8, celebrating the Onam week. However, the makers have now announced that the film will release a week after Onam due to work delay. 

Apart from Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara, the film also features Ajmal Amir, Mallika Sukumaran, Lalu Alex, Saiju Kurup and Justin John. The film is produced by Supriya Menon and Listin Stephen under the banner Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames. The music is composed by Rajesh Murugeshan.

Alphonse Puthren’s Gold gets postponed (Malayalam)

Asif Ali and Roshan Mathew starrer Kotthu trailer out (Malayalam) 

Sibi Malayil’s Kotthu is a political thriller inspired by real-life events from northern Kerala. The trailer opens with a funeral, where a boy loses his entire family to murder. He is then helped by the local party. Asif Ali plays the adult version of the little boy and fights for his party, along with Roshan Mathew. The trailer gives us glimpses of political party workers, their rebellion, and the bloodshed that happens. 

Directed by Sibi Malayil, Kotthu is written by Hemanth Kumar. Rathin Radhakrishnan has handled the editing and Prasanth Raveendran has cranked the camera. The film co-stars Ranjith, Sreelakshmi, Sudev Nair, Sreejith Ravi, and Vijilesh Kariyad. It is produced by Ranjith and P. M. Sasidharan under Gold Coin Motion Picture Company. While Kailas Menon has scored the music, Jakes Bejoy has composed the background score. 

Nivin Pauly’s Padavettu gets a teaser (Malayalam)

Set in quarry mines, the teaser of the Nivin Pauly-starrer opens up with the question, “When human beings are suffering without water today, they are taught to plant trees for future rainfall, is this development?” While the voiceover says development is love, we are shown glimpses of riots and fights between political parties. Padavettu, which seems to be centered around the fight for one’s land and rights, releases on October 21. 

Apart from Nivin Pauly, the film stars Aditi Balan, Shammi Thilakan, Shine Tom Chacko and Indrans. Directed by Liju Krishna, it is produced by Vikram Mehra, Siddharth Anand Kumar and Sunny Wayne. While Deepak D Menon has lensed the film, Shafique Mohamed Ali has handled the editing and Govind Vasantha has composed the music. 

Aadi Sai Kumar’s Crazy Fellow releases on October 14 (Telugu)

Aadi Sai Kumar’s role in Crazy Fellow, true to its title, is a troublemaker to his dear friends and annoys the girls he meets. Centered around his funny acts that land him in trouble, the film explores his love life. The film is slated to release on October 14. Directed by Phani Krishna Siriki, Crazy Fellow stars Digangana Suryavanshi, Mirnaa Menon, Saptagiri, Narra Srinivas, and Anish Kuruvilla. It is produced by KK Radha Mohan under the banner of Sri Sathya Sai Arts. RR Dhruvan is the music composer, Satish Muthyala is the cinematographer and Satya Giduturi is the editor. 

Vinoth Kishan and Keerthi Pandian headline Konjam Pesinaal Yenna (Tamil)

Keerthi’s Sanjana and Vinoth’s Ajay know each other since their school days, but begin to fall in love with each other years later. Their relationship grows in trust and belief over texts and video calls. However, what seems like a blossoming relationship soon begins to take a different turn as Ajay starts behaving differently. When Sanjana says, “From the little time we’ve spent together, I know you well enough to know you aren’t okay”, Ajay denies it, saying she doesn’t know him that well. But it looks like Sanjana was not just talking about the present, but also referred to her moments with him since school. 

Konjam Pesinaal Yenna co-stars  Gowtham Sundararajan,VJ Ashiq, Kaamna Batra, Akash Premkumar and Rajshree Rajan. The film is written and directed by GiriMuprhey and produced by Sameer Bharat Ram under the banner of Super Talkies. The film has music by Deepan Chakaravarthy, cinematography by Lenin, and editing by Dhanasekar.
