Here’s a look at what’s releasing in theatres across languages this week.

Blue Beetle (English)

When: August 18 

DC is returning with Blue Beetle, the latest addition to their growing roster of super heroes. The film adapted based on the character from the comics that first came out in the year 2006. The film directed by Angel Manuel Soto stars Xolo Maridueña, Adriana Barraza and Damián Alcázar in the lead. What will happen when a college passout is required to be a symbiotic host to a mysterious armor that grants him super powers? Will he be able to take on the dark side with his newfound abilities?

Subhedar (Marathi)

When: August 18 

This big budget Marathi film is the fifth installment of the Shivraj Ashtak series, tracing the life and legacy of the Hindavi Swarajya and the legendary Mavalas dynasty. The film deals with the times and life of Subedar Tanaji Malusare and his efforts to conquer ‘Kondana' fort, which was later renamed ‘Sinhagad’ after he triumphantly conquered the fort against all odds. The historic period drama film directed by Digpal Lanjekar promises to be a unique big screen experience dealing with a relatively unknown chapter in Maratha history starring Chinmay Mandlekar, Mrinal Kulkarni and Ajay Purkar in the lead roles.

Ghoomer (Hindi)

When: August 18

Ghoomer is a tale about hope, perseverance and not letting life get in the way of your dreams. The film deals with the inspirational journey of a female cricketer, whose career prospects are erased when she loses her right hand in an accident and how a washed up, alcoholic ex cricketer mentors her to regain her confidence and achieve her goal overcoming her obstacles. The film directed by R Balki known for films like Cheeni Kum (2007), Shamitabh (2015), Chup (2022) among others features Saiyami Kher, Abhishek Bachchan and Shabana Azmi in the lead roles.

Jailer (Malayalam)

When: August 18

Malayalam cinema’s Jailer (2023), based on a real-life incident, deals with a jailer who decides to do a series of real-time social experiments with a bunch of criminals under his custody. Directed by debutant Sakkir Madathil, the film features Dhyan Sreenivasan, Manoj K Jayan, Jayaprakash and Divya Pillai and is an intense thriller set against a ticking clock in the backdrop of the world of organized crime.

The Queen Mary (English)

When: August 18

What will happen when two families living in two separate timelines in the year 1938 and the present , who take separate trips aboard the RMS Queen Mary cruise and end up getting connected by a mysterious turn of events on Halloween eve? This is the one line synopsis for the time bending. The horror film directed by Gary Shore with Alice Eve, Neil Hudson and Angus Wright in the lead. The promotional material assures a gritty, elevated horror film about family relationships and hidden secrets resurfacing across generations.

Madhilo Madhi (Telugu)

When: August 18 

This film tells the story of a couple whose marital problems escalate when strange occurrences start developing in their neighborhood that start impacting their lives. The micro budget thriller film starring newcomers like Jai Nemukuri, Sweety Swathi, Srinivas Rao, Siri Ravulachari lead is written and directed by debutant Prakash Palla. 

Prem Kumar  (Telugu)

When: August 18

Prem Kumar story follows the antics of a young prospective groom whose long time wish of being married remains a dream and he ends up joining a detective agency, specializing in marriage related cases. The comedy caper stars Santosh Soban, Rashi Singh and Krishna Chaitanya in the lead roles and is being directed by Abhishek Maharishi.

Midnight Killers (Telugu)

When: August 18

What happens when a group of friends decide to take a weekend off to a secluded bungalow in the forest? They will face death, obviously. This slasher flick is a new take on the mysterious killer on the run trope of genre storytelling. The killer is finishing off his victims one by one and the team of friends are supposed to catch the culprit along with the police before they themselves end up dead. This low budget indie directed by Raju Shetty Boyana stars a whole new cast of young actors in the lead.

Mr Pregnant (Telugu)

When: August 18 

What will happen if the gender roles get reversed in a marriage and the husband decides to get pregnant and deliver the child in place of his wife? How will society and their loved ones react to it and how will they overcome societal stigma and exclusion? This forms the basic premise of the comedy drama Mr Pregnant directed by Srinivas Vijanampati, that features Syed Sohal and Roopa Koduvayur in the lead roles.

Non Stop Dhamal (Hindi)

When: August 18

The film deals with a struggling director and writer, teaming up to find a producer for their film. Will they find a star? Will the movie be completed? This comedy is a direct satire on the film industry taking digs at the behind the scenes of making cinema. The film stars an extended cast of veteran comedians like Annu Kapoor, Manoj Dhoshi, Asrani and Rajpal Yadhav among others. The film is directed by Irshad Khan.

Baang (Kannada)

When: August 18

Three commoners get entangled with the world of crime, when they come face to face with two deadly gangsters. Their only way is to complete a deadly mission before the clock runs out. Will they be able to do it? The high octane action film stars Shanvi Srivastava, Raghu Dixit and Shravya in the lead and is directed by See Ganesh Parashuram.

3 Ekka (Gujarati)

When: August 18

Three friends, plagued by some financial issues, decide to make some money by turning an ordinary house into a gambling den but end up having to face bigger challenges from within and outside their new business. The film is billed as a comedy of errors that is sure to offer some light hearted laughs with some societal issues sprinkled all over. The film directed by Rajesh Varma stars Malhar Talkar, Yash Soni, Mitra Gadvi and Kinjal Rajpriya in the lead.

Point Range (Malayalam)

When: August 18

Point Range is a film about a communist leader on the run from the drug mafia. The action thriller film stars Sarath Appani, Riyaz Khan and Shiji Mohammad in the lead and is directed by Sainu Chavakkadan. The film looks at the socio-political conditions in Kerala and is expected to be a road movie.

Junior (Punjabi)

When: August 18 

A deadly assassin is back from a hiatus and finds that a heinous crime has been committed against his daughter. The film deals with the vengeful assassin going back to his wild ways to track down the ones behind it all. The film directed by Harman Dhillon is an action heavy entertainer featuring Ameik Virk as the assassin on loose, while Kabir Bedi, Srishti Jain and Pradeep Rawat star in supporting roles.
