Here's a recap of the significant stories in entertainment across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films, and sometimes the odd television series as well.

Atlee's next with Shah Rukh Khan titled Jawan (Tamil)

Shah Rukh Khan and Atlee come together for an action entertainer titled Jawan. The title announcement video opens up with a glimpse of several guns and communicating equipment. Shah Rukh Khan plays Jawan who appears to be wounded and his face is covered with bandages. The video ends on a high note with him packing different weapons like knives and guns, and is seen waiting in a metro station. 

The film is produced by Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan under the banner Red Chillies Entertainment. Anirudh Ravichander is roped in as the music director. Jawan is set to release on June 2, 2023, across five languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. 

Nani, Nazriya Nazim's Ante Sundaraniki promises a fun ride (Telugu)

Ante Sundaraniki stars Nani and Nazriya in lead roles as Sundar and Leela. While Sundar aims to go to America and flex about it to his friends, Leela is a photographer and wishes to get married in her dream wedding destination. When both families oppose interfaith marriage, it looks like the pair decides to elope and fulfill their dreams. 

Ante Sundaraniki is directed by Vivek Athreya. Apart from Nani and Nazriya Nazim, the film also stars Naresh, Rohini, Nadiya, N. Alagan Perumal, Harshavardhan, Rahul Ramakrishna, and Aruna. It is produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar. The music is composed by Vivek Sagar. Ante Sundaraniki is expected to release in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada on June 10.

Arun Vijay and Priya Bhavani Shankar starrer Yaanai is an action drama (Tamil)

After a short break, Singam franchise fame director Hari makes a comeback with Yaanai starring Arun Vijay and Priya Bhavani Shankar. From the trailer, it looks like the film is an action drama driven by family sentiments and emotional moments. 

The cast includes Samuthirakani, Yogi Babu, Ammu Abirami, KGF Ramachandra Raju, and Radhika Sarathkumar. The film is produced by Vedikkaranpatti S Sakthivel under Drumsticks Productions. GV Prakash is the music director, Gopinath is the DOP and Anthony is the editor. Yaanai is scheduled to release on June 17.

Prithviraj Sukumaran's Kaduva gets a release date (Malayalam) 

After his successful outing in Jana Gana Mana, Prithviraj Sukumaran will be next seen in Kaduva. He plays a character named Kaduvakkunnel Kuruvachan. Kaduva is directed by Shaji Kailas and the story was penned by Jinu V Abraham. The film is slated to hit the theatres on June 30. 

Apart from Prithviraj Sukumaran, it stars Samyuktha Menon, Seema, Janardhanan, Priyanka Nair, Sudev Nair, Aju Varghese, and Dileesh Pothan. Sujith Vaassudev and Abhinandhan Ramanujam handle the cinematography, Shameer Muhammed takes care of the editing and Jakes Bejoy scores the music for the film. It is produced by Supriya Menon & Listin Stephen, under Prithviraj Productions & Magic Frames banner.

Suneel Rao's Thurthu Nirgamana promises an interesting play with life and death (Kannada)

The trailer of Thurthu Nirgamana begins with the dialogue "Birth and death are not in our hands". Centered around this theme, Vikram, after his death, gets an opportunity to relive the last three days of his life. If he doesn't find what he needs, he will be stuck in these three days. 

The fantasy drama is directed by Hemanth Kumar L. It stars SuneelRao, Sudharani, Achyuta Kumar, Raj B Shetty, Hitha Chandrashekhar, and Samyukta Hegde. The film is produced by Bharath Kumar & Hemanth Kumar L. Prayag Mukundan is the DOP and B Ajithkumar is the editor. Thurthu Nirgamana releases on June 24 in theatres. 

Nivin Pauly's Thuramukham gets postponed, releases on June 10 (Malayalam)

Set in the backdrop of Cochin Port from 1927 to 1953, Thuramukham follows the lives of workers who struggle for basic rights and power. Starring Nivin Pauly, the film was scheduled to release on June 3. However, the makers have postponed the release date and the film is now slated to hit the theatres on June 10. 

Thuramukham is directed by Rajeev Ravi (who is also the cinematographer) and written by Gopan Chidambaram, based on a play by KN Chidambaram. B. Ajith Kumar is the editor The film also stars Indrajith Sukumaran, Arjun Ashokan, Joju George, Poornima Indrajith, Nimisha Sajayan, Darshana Rajendran, and Sudev Nair. Thuramukham premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2021. It is produced by Sukumar Thekkepat, Jose Thomas, and Anoop Joseph. The music is composed by "K" & Shahabaz Aman.

Sivakarthikeyan's SK20 releases on August 31 (Tamil)

SK20 is helmed by Anudeep KV, who is known for the 2021 Telugu release Jathi Ratnalu. The makers have announced that the film will hit the theatres on August 31, on the occasion of Vinayaga Chathurthi. SK20 stars Sivakarthikeyan, Maria Ryaboshapka, and Sathyaraj in important roles. 

Releasing in both Tamil and Telugu, it is said to be a romantic comedy. Thaman S is the music composer. The film is produced by D. Suresh Babu, Narayan Das K Narang, Puskur Ram Mohan Rao and co-produced by Arun Viswa. 

SJ Suryah loves a mannequin, played by Priya Bhavani Shankar in Bommai (Tamil)

After Maanaadu and Don, SJ Suryah will be next seen in Radhamohan's Bommai, paired opposite Priya Bhavani Shankar. Billed as a romantic thriller, SJ Suryah, who works in a dress shop, is obsessed with a mannequin. Priya Bhavani Shankar appears to be the human version of the mannequin, the "Bommai". 

Bommai is written by MR Pon Parthiban, and directed by Radhamohan. It is a Yuvan Shankar Raja musical and is produced by V Maruthu Pandian, Dr. Jasmine Santhosh, and Dr. Dheepa T Durai under the banner Angel Studios. Richard M Nathan handles the cinematography and Anthony takes care of the editing.

SJ Suryah's Kadamaiyai Sei, also starring Yashika Anand releases on June 24. It is directed by Venkat Raghavan and is produced by TR Ramesh and Zakir Hussain under Ganesh Entertainment and Nahar Films. 

Shyam Mohan's Kochaal trailer released (Malayalam)

Kochaal revolves around Krishna Sankar's character who aspires to become a police officer. He is always teased for his height but finally achieves his dream. Shine Tom Chacko plays a local goon, and the major conflict is between Krishna Sankar and Shine Tom Chacko. Kochaal releases on June 10. 

Kochaal is written by Midhun-Prajith and directed by Shyam Mohan. The film stars Shine Tom Chacko, Krishna Sankar, Murali Gopy, and Indrans in important roles. Jomon Thomas is the cinematographer and Bijish Balakrishnan is the editor. The background score is composed by Manikandan Ayyappa and the film is produced by Deep Nagda. 

Kovai Sarala plays a unique role in Sembi, trailer out (Tamil)

Sembi directed by Kumki fame Prabu Solomon revolves around different people who travel on a bus regularly. In the trailer, the bus introduces itself as Anbu Bus and it looks like the bus will play a major role in the film. Kovai Sarala plays the role of an old woman who takes care of her granddaughter, her unique characterization builds curiosity. There is some danger looming over the bus and its passengers, but the trailer does not reveal any plot points. 

Sembi stars Ashwin Kumar, Kovai Sarala, and Thambi Ramaiah in important roles. Nivas K Prasanna scores music for the film. Buvan is the editor and M Jeevan is the cinematographer. The film is produced by R Ravindran, Ajmal Khan, and Reyaa. 

Rana Daggubati and Sai Pallavi's Virata Parvam gets a new release date (Telugu)

Virata Parvam is a periodic drama helmed by Venu Udugula. The film was initially scheduled to release on April 30, 2021. However, due to the pandemic, its release was postponed to July 1, 2022. The makers have now preponed its release, and the film is scheduled to hit the theatres on June 17. 

It is produced by Rana Daggubati's father Suresh Babu in association with Sudhakar Cherukuri. The film stars Rana Daggubati, Sai Pallavi, Priyamani, Nandita Das and Zarina Wahab. Suresh Bobbili composed the music, Dani Sanchez-Lopez cinematographed the film and A Sreekar Prasad handled the editing. 

Suraj Venjaramoodu and Sudev Nair lock horns in Heaven (Malayalam)

Set in 2019, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Sudev Nair play police officers who compete in finding the criminal. The film revolves around Suraj Venjaramoodu who appears to be facing some obstacles and failing in his investigation process but is trying to redeem and solve the case. 

Heaven is directed by Unni Govindraj and co-written by PS Subramanian. The film is produced by A D Sreekumar, Rema Sreekumar, K Krishnan, and T R Raghuraj. Gopi Sundar composes the music, Vinod Illampally handles the cinematography, and Toby John does the editing.

Trailer of Oka Pathakam Prakaram starring Sai Raam Shankar was released (Telugu)

Six national award winners come together to make Oka Pathakam Prakaram. The film has Sai Raam Shankar playing a major role. Based on the trailer, it appears that his character will have a resemblance to both Rama and Ravana. 

Oka Pathakam Prakaram is directed by Vinod Vijayan. The film stars Sai Raam Shankar, Ashima Narwal, Samuthirakani, and Shruti Sodhi. Rahul Raj is the music composer. It is produced by Vinod Vijayan and Garlapati Ramesh, under the banner Vinod Vijayan Films and Vihari Cinema House Pvt Ltd. 

Tovino Thomas, Nimisha Sajayan, and Indrans star in Adrishya Jalakangal, poster out (Malayalam)

Adrishya Jalakangal is directed by Dr Biju. The makers have released the first look poster which features an industrial setup and two helicopters. The film stars Tovino Thomas, Nimisha Sajayan, and Indrans in lead roles. Yedhu Radhakrishnan is the cinematographer. Davis Manuel handles editing and is also the associate director of the film. Adrishya Jalakangal is produced by Radhika Lavu and is touted to be an anti-war film. 

Legend Saravanan plays a scientist in his debut film The Legend (Tamil)

Set in the backdrop of rural India, Saravanan (Legend Saravanan) has to let go of a global recognition or fight his enemies to save the day in The Legend. With punch dialogues, romance, songs, scientific experiments, and action sequences, the film looks like a mass entertainer.

The Legend is directed by JD – Jerry. Apart from debutant Legend Saravanan, it stars Urvashi Rautela, Geethika, late Vivek, Nasser, Prabhu, Vijayakumar, and Yogi Babu. Harris Jayaraj is the music director. R Velraj is the DOP and Ruben is the editor. The film is produced by Legend Saravanan himself under the banner The New Legend Saravana Stores Productions.

Jaggesh's Raghavendra Stores releases on August 5 (Kannada)

Raghavendra Stores revolves around a 40-year-old bachelor cook. This comedy entertainer is directed by Santhosh Ananddram and stars Jaggesh and Shwetha Srivatsav in the lead roles. It is scheduled to release on August 5. The film is produced by Vijay Kiragandur under Hombale Films. B. Ajaneesh Loknath is the music director, Shreesha Kuduvalli is the cinematographer and Deepu S Kumar is the editor.
