Emmy Nominations 2023: Pick Your Winner

With the ongoing writers' strike in America, there's very little known about the 75th Emmy Awards, which is scheduled to be held on September 18 (there is some speculation that the awards presentation might be delayed) and will stream live on Lionsgate Play on September 19. However, the nominations for the 2023 Emmy Awards dropped last night and we’ve got the full list for you, complete with which ones are available to viewers in India. And as a bonus, we’ve highlighted our favourites from each category in bold.

Best Drama Series

Andor (Disney+ Hotstar)

Better Call Saul (Netflix)

The Crown (Netflix)

House of the Dragon (Jio Cinema)

The Last of Us (Jio Cinema)

Succession (Jio Cinema)

The White Lotus (Jio Cinema)

Yellowjackets (Jio Cinema)

If we had to pick one: Succession. This is not only because the show was a critical favourite, but also because this year was its final season.

Best Actor in a Drama Series

Jeff Bridges (The Old Man)

Brian Cox (Succession)

Kieran Culkin (Succession)

Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul)

Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us)

Jeremy Strong (Succession)

The one they missed: Paddy Considine from House of the Dragon. As a monarch tasked with keeping the realm together but helplessly unable to prevent his own family from splintering, Paddy Considine as Viserys brought a weary vulnerability to his ageing character, struggling to keep his mind sharp even as his body deteriorated.

Best Actress in a Drama Series

Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters)

Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets)

Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale)

Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us)

Keri Russell (The Diplomat)

Sarah Snook (Succession)

Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

F. Murray Abraham (The White Lotus)

Nicholas Braun (Succession)

Michael Imperioli (The White Lotus)

Theo James (The White Lotus)

Matthew Macfadyen (Succession)

Alan Ruck (Succession)

Will Sharpe (The White Lotus)

Alexander Skarsgård (Succession)

The one they missed: Claes Bang in Bad Sisters, as the baddest of bad husbands. If you’re looking for a show full of wicked charm, look up Bad Sisters on Apple TV+.

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus)

Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown)

Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus)

Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus)

Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus)

Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul)

The Bear (Disney+ Hotstar)

Jury Duty (Prime Video)

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Prime Video)

Only Murders in the Building (Disney+ Hotstar)

Ted Lasso (Apple TV+)

Wednesday (Netflix)

Unpopular opinion: Ted Lasso will be a favourite but this season doesn’t deserve much love.

Best Actress in a Comedy Series

Christina Applegate (Dead to Me)

Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)

Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary)

Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face)

Bill Hader (Barry)

Best Limited or Anthology Series

Beef (Netflix)

Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (Netflix)

Daisy Jones & the Six (Prime Video)

Fleishman Is in Trouble (Disney+ Hotstar)

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Disney+)

The one they missed: A Small Light, which tells the story of Miep Gies, who helped hide Anne Frank during the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam, has received much praise. Also, maybe an Emmy nomination would convince one of the streaming platforms to make it available to Indian viewers.

Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie

Lizzy Caplan (Fleishman Is in Trouble)

Jessica Chastain (George & Tammy)

Dominique Fishback (Swarm)

Kathryn Hahn (Tiny Beautiful Things)

Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & the Six)

Ali Wong (Beef)

PSA: George and Tammy is available on Jio Cinema.

Kumail Nanjiani (Welcome to Chippendales)

Evan Peters (Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story)

Daniel Radcliffe (Weird: The Al Yankovic Story)

Michael Shannon (George & Tammy)

Steven Yeun (Beef)

Pleasant surprise: It’s nice to see Kumail Nanjiani’s performance of Steve Banerjee get some love since he was excellent even though the show — available on Disney+ Hotstar — was middling.

Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie

Murray Bartlett (Welcome To Chippendales)

Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird)

Richard Jenkins (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story)

Christopher Storer for The Bear

Mekki Leeper for Jury Duty

John Hoffman, Matteo Borghese and Rob Turbovsky for Only Murders in the Building

Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider for The Other Two

Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly and Jason Sudeikis for Ted Lasso

PSA: The Other Two is streaming on Jio Cinema. Also if Christopher Storer doesn’t win in this category, we might need to break something.

Best Writing for a Drama Series

Beau Willimon for Andor

Sharon Horgan, Dave Finker, Brett Baer for Bad Sisters

Gordon Smith and Peter Gould for Better Call Saul

Craig Mazin for The Last of Us

Jesse Armstrong for Succession

Janine Nabers (teleplay) and Donald Glover (story) for Swarm

Al Yankovic and Eric Appel for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story

Unpleasant surprise: Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is too much of a parody. It starts off well, but after a point, the film seems to be intent upon outdoing its own craziness.
