5 Great Comedy Shows On Amazon Prime Video

While it may be lauded for the Fleabags and Marvelous Mrs Maisels, and rightly so, Amazon Prime Video has a roster of other comedic gems. These are shows that aim to throw us into fits of pure, giddy, and embarrassing laughter, and teach us a few life lessons along the way. From inappropriate bosses, to inept ghost hunters to exploring the afterlife, here are 5 great comedies on Amazon Prime Video.

Upload

This breezy and deceptively smart new comedy from Greg Daniels follows a man who decides to transpose himself to a virtual afterlife after his untimely death. A zany, fun parody of the future and the nature of consumerism, Upload is a charming series which refuses to take itself too seriously. In a bleak world of Black Mirror-like shows which examine the future with despair, this is the rare sci-fi series that's heartwarming, funny, and imaginative.

The Office

Universally considered one of the most beloved TV sitcoms of all time, Greg Daniels (again) masterfully adapted Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's British workplace series to an American setting. Among its laundry list of achievements, The Office gave us one of TV's most celebrated creations – Michael Scott, the lovably inappropriate simpleton with a heart of gold.

Not to mention a larger roster of quirky and weirdly relatable characters, as well as a love story for the ages in Jim and Pam. Between its running gags, subtle straight face humour, great cold opens and witty one-liners, it remains one of the most rewatchable comedies of all time.

Good Omens

Author Neil Gaiman adapted his own 1990 book written with Terry Pratchett with this fantasy comedy that's warm, comfortable and kind. Good Omens follows the unlikely friendship between an angel (Michael Sheen) and a demon (David Tennant) as they attempt to stop Armageddon – a king of post-apocalyptic buddy cop comedy. Aside from its end-of-the-world stakes, witches and hellhounds – the series sails off the back of the delightful chemistry between its two leads, giving us a bonkers yet feel-good tale of friendship.

Parks and Rec

Greg Daniels, yet again, (the dude is a comedy institution) and Michael Schur's hit show follows the misadventures of mid-level city bureaucrats in a small town. A delightful Amy Poehler leads a winning ensemble giving us a mixed bag of endearing characters, from April Ludgate's dark humour to Ron Swanson's anti-government rants to Leslie Knope's nauseating positivity. Between its heartwarming moments and hilarious misadventures, Parks And Rec remains one of the most iconic TV comedies of all time.

Truth Seekers

It's hard to go wrong with the winning team of Pegg and Frost (The Cornetto Trilogy). Their latest series Truth Seekers (which they also co-wrote and co-created) sees them playing broadband installers who happen to be part-time paranormal investigators. It's pretty much everything you'd want from a horror comedy, filled with laugh-out-loud one-liners, and genuinely spooky sequences. Truth Seekers is a self aware series that embraces its dorky cheesiness and is exactly the kind of kooky comfort watch we need right now.
