Four wealthy Delhi girls Kalindi (Kareena Kapoor Khan), Avni (Sonam Kapoor Ahuja), Sakshi (Swara Bhasker) and Meera (Shikha Talsania) meet in school and form a life-long friendship. When older, they support each other through complex marriages, divorce and broken homes. Many films centred around friendship have explored men bonding over these issues, but few have shown the lives of young, urban girls. The girls of Veere keep no secrets from each other – we hear tales of orgasms, masturbation, one-night stands, etc.

To see a film fronted by women (including producers Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor) showing its protagonists freely use profanities or even discuss sex is a giant leap for Bollywood. The makers requested that the film not be addressed as a 'chick-flick' but post its release Veere sparked immense debate over what it did for the cause of feminism. The film went on to becoming a huge box office success which is undeniably a major victory for women-led films in Bollywood.
