#63 Safar: Top 100 Bollywood Albums

Movie Details of Safar

Music: Kalyanji-Anandji

Lyrics: Indeevar

Label: Saregama HMV

Director: Asit Sen

Director Asit Sen's remake of his own 1956 Bengali film Chalachal saw him team up with Kalyanji-Anandji, after having worked with Salil Choudhary, Roshan and Laxmikant-Pyarelal for his previous Hindi films. The duo did not disappoint – with one of their favoured lyricists of the time, Indeevar, they delivered such classics as Jeevan Se Bhari and Zindagi Ka Safar, and a beautiful boat song in Nadiya Chale. It was also one of the few Rajesh Khanna movies to feature a Mukesh song (though he did not sing for the actor here).

Best Song of Safar: For the cult status that the Rajesh Khanna-Kishore Kumar combination would go on to attain, Safar was still relatively early days (though they already had some gems against their name), but Jeevan Se Bhari Teri Aankhen and Zindagi Ka Safar would occupy prime spots in that repertoire. Among the two, I like the former a little better, so would rate that the best of the soundtrack.

The Safar Playlist:

  1. Zindagi Ka Safar (Singer: Kishore Kumar)
  2. Jeevan Se Bhari (Singer: Kishore Kumar)
  3. Nadiya Chale Chale (Singer: Manna Dey)
  4. Jo Tumko Ho Pasand (Singer: Mukesh)
  5. Hum The Jiske Sahaare (Singer: Lata Mangeshkar)
