In an interview with Anupama Chopra, Kashyap revealed that he had written the film with an actor in mind. The actor Kennedy John Victor, better known by his stage name Vikram, is who Kashyap had written the film for, and expressed that he had reached out to him but did not receive a response.
"Kennedy is a ghost in the system looking for redemption,” is how Kashyap described the film to Variety. The film will have Sunny Leone as its female lead.
Kennedy marks the third time Kashyap collaborates with Bhat after Ugly (2013) and Dobaaraa (2022).
The film's poster is inspired by the Giallo style of poster. Furthermore, posters of Taxi Driver (1976) and Raging Bull (1980) have been used as references.
The poster also makes references to Kashyap's own films. For instance, the black font on the yellow background is inspired by That Girl in Yellow Boots (2010).
Todd Haynes' film, starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, had its world premiere at Cannes and earned a 6-minute standing ovation at the festival’s Grand Palais.
