With only a week left for the release of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 2, the makers are releasing exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. These videos show a sneak peek into the complex and artful process of making an epic historical film.
The recent video looks at the extensive sound mixing, engineering and dubbing process music director AR Rahman had undertaken. The video starts with AR Rahman introducing the sound engineer for the film Simon Rhodes, who has worked on productions such as Avatar 2: The Way of The Water (2022), Skyfall (2012) and more. We then get glimpses of the recording process. Various sounds such as chants, screams and war cries have been recorded outside the studio. Rahman then introduces the mixing engineer of the film, Craig Mann, who had previously won the Academy Award for Whiplash (2021). We also get short glimpses of various actors like Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Jayaram dubbing for their roles.
Ponniyin Selvan-2 is the second instalment of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus. The film co-stars Trisha, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, R Parthiban and more. AR Rahman has scored the music while Ravi Varman and Sreekar Prasad have handled cinematography and editing, respectively. Subaskaran's Lyca Productions and Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies have bankrolled the project. The film is set to release on April 28.
