Kesari – Movie Review, Trailer, Interviews and More

Team FC

Director: Anurag Singh

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra

The trailer, that gives us a breathtakingly sweeping tour of the rugged Hindukush mountains, shows the scope and scale of the film. There is something spare about the way Singh's men are shown in this vast landscape, preparing themselves for an impossible contest. The dolly shots look smooth, the action sequences well-choreographed enough to promise a sleek historical action epic.

Before the release of Kesari, the actor talks about the joy in doing films that can bring change but adds that he also enjoys doing films like Housefull.

As part of our collaboration with The Voice Of Fashion we speak to Akshay Kumar ahead of the release of his film Kesari and he ask him about the role fashion plays in his life. He tells us about how he takes at least one piece of clothing from every film he is a part of and why he believes track pants are forgiving.

At one point in Kesari, two cultures are at the brink of war. One of them – let's call them the bad guys – presents a frontline of drum-beating kohl-eyed soldiers. This is their war cry. In response, the other – let's call them the good guys – presents their turbaned leader on top of the fort. He single-handedly drowns out the drum-beating enemies by whipping out a dholak and letting it rip. An epic battle is reduced to an egoistic contest of noise; the louder one wins bragging rights.

Kesari is a story so astounding that if it wasn't true, you would never believe it. In September 1897, 21 soldiers of the 36th Sikh regiment of the British army fought valiantly against more than 10,000 Afghans. Using single-loading rifles, they kept the enemy at bay for hours ensuring that they didn't succeed in their plan to take over two key British forts in the North West Frontier Province. The Battle of Saragarhi is known as one of the greatest last stands in military history.
