Team FC

Akshay Kumar will be seen championing the cause of Swachh Bharat through his next, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha directed by Shree Narayan Singh. Keshav, a simpleton who is desperate to be married finds true love in Jaya, played by Bhumi Pednekar (last seen in 2015's Dum Laga Ke Haisha). However, Jaya leaves him soon after they marry because their house does not have a toilet. The film has been written by Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal, who have previously penned Ram Leela (2013) and Raabta (2017).

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha's three-minute trailer shows it's lead cast make emphatic speeches about open defecation and sanitary hygiene for women in the village. In one scene, Akshay Kumar's character is seen speaking to a TV camera announcing – biwi paas chahiye toh ghar main sundaas chahiye. Kumar will also be seen in R Balki's next, Padman based on Tamil Nadu-based activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, who brought about a menstrual hygiene revolution in his village by creating low cost sanitary napkins.

The trailer was strategically released in the midst of the ongoing ICC Champions' Trophy match between India and South Africa to grab more eyeballs. The film is produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, KriArj Entertainment and Neeraj Pandey, who has previously collaborated with Akshay Kumar on Special 26 (2013) and Baby (2015). The film releases on August 11.
