Raees, Jolly LLB 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhania Set New Monthly Box Office Records

The first quarter of the year has traditionally been sluggish at the box office. While the January 26 holiday ensures that a big release is scheduled in that period, most big-ticket films stay away from this quarter, in which box office is impacted by the winters in North India and then by examinations all over the country.

2017, however, seems to be setting new records. Raees became the highest grossing January release ever, despite a clash with Kaabil. But the February and March records are even more substantive. Jolly LLB 2 became the first-ever February release to cross the 100 crore mark at the domestic box office, beating My Name Is Khan by more than Rs. 30 crore. Badrinath Ki Dulhania has taken the best start ever for a March release, and even at a conservative estimate, it will be comfortably ahead of last year's Kapoor & Sons. In all likelihood, the film may become the first-ever 100 crore March release.

Let's hope the rest of the year features may more records of this nature and boosts the annual footfalls, which have been stagnant for almost four years now.
