COVID-19 may have brought the entire world on its knees but it doesn’t look like it has slowed down Ram Gopal Varma’s breakneck filmmaking pace. At a time when hundreds of films are being stalled, RGV has managed to release as many as five films (Beautiful, Climax, Naked, Powerstar and Thriller) this year, with four finding a release on his pay per view platform www.rgvworld.in. Apart from announcing several other projects, including his own biopic, the director also released the trailer of Disha Encounter today.
The new film breaks down the sequence of events and the investigation that followed the gang-rape and murder of a young veterinarian Disha (name changed) in the outskirts of Hyderabad in December last year. The graphic two-minute trailer shows four men abducting the 27-year-old, moving around on their truck before setting fire to her body on the shadows of an underpass, bringing back images of news visuals from the incident. The sound a man wailing is a part of the background as the camera pulls back to an aerial view of the growing fire even as the city sleeps, undisturbed.
The film starring Srikant Iyengar, Sonia Akula and Praveen Raj was shot by Jagdeesh Cheekati. It is being directed by Anand Chandra, who helmed Murder, which was also based on a true incident.
RGV recently spoke to us as his film Rangeela completed 25 years this month.
