Darbar Trailer Talk: Mumbai Gets A New ‘Superbadcop’ Named Aditya Arunasalam

The trailer of the much-awaited AR Murugadoss-Rajinikanth film dropped later than what the makers had promised but the wait was well worth it. #LateaVanthalumLatestaVaruven

As expected, the trailer places a lot of focus on Superstar's mega entry. An illegal gambling ring seems to be taking place, only for it be "rudely" interrupted by Aditya Arunsalam, the new commissioner of police of Mumbai. If Anirudh's rousing background score gave you the goosebumps during the first look, then the trailer doubles that effect, given Rajini's cool sunglasses and a khaki trench coat. AR Murugadoss's obsession with weapons continue with Darbar too as we see the man holding a Japanese katana to kick butt.

It's also a trailer that reveals little. Apart from his introduction and a love-at-first moment with a gorgeous Nayanthara, all we get to see is a Suneil Shetty's man-bun sporting villain character. In terms of plot or a basic storyline, very little is explained other than the visuals of a "Supercop" taking charge in the city after crime gets out of control.

Which, in a way, only builds more excitement. One of the complaints about ARM's previous film Sarkar's trailer was that it revealed too much. Darbar's trailer, instead, has focussed a lot more on signature Rajni's mannerisms and dialogues custom-made for the star and his fans.

"Originalleve Naan Villain Thaan," is sure to send his fans into a frenzy come release day. The line goes a step further when he follows it up with the biggest punch of them all, "Idhu eppadi irukku?"

Traces of his evil Chitti mannerisms too can be seen in the way he says, "I'm a bad cop," as he walks away in true Rajini swag towards the end of trailer.

Overall, a great trailer, which leaves fans begging for more.

The film is expected to release on the 10th of January, 2020. Rajinikanth's previous film, Petta, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, too had released during the Pongal festival this year. Petta too had music by Anirudh

Santosh Sivan is the film's DOP, making it his third collaboration with AR Murugadoss after Thuppaki and Spyder.
