Ajay Devgn returns to direction after U Me Aur Hum (2008) and Shivaay (2016) with the upcoming thriller, Runway 34.
The trailer reflects how Captain Vikrant Khanna (Devgn), a pilot, finds himself in a life-threatening situation alongside hundreds of passengers mid-air, as everyone's lives hang in the balance. The responsibility then invariably falls on his, and his co-pilot's – a new joinee – hands. The trailer jumps back and forth in time, where an investigative officer (Amitabh Bachchan) attempts to unearth the reality behind the casualties, Vikrant's seemingly faulty decision-making and the exact events that took place before and during the mysterious circumstances of the flight. Who was at fault? Who went against the rules?
The film is based on a real-life incident that took place in 2015 during a Jet Airways flight from Doha to Kochi. The flight had a narrow escape after facing several difficulties enroute, including unclear visibility owing to bad weather conditions and facing a severe lack of fuel, making it difficult for the pilots on-board to keep the flight safe. This incident raised several questions about the now defunct airline and their safety protocols for international flights.
Co-produced by Devgn under his banner Ajay Devgn Ffilms, the film also stars Boman Irani, Rakul Preet Singh, Angira Dhar and Aakanksha Singh. Co-written by Sandeep Kewlani and Aamil Keeyan Khan, it releases theatrically on April 29.
