Laal Kaptaan Trailer Talk: A Revenge Saga of a Naga Sadhu, Saif Ali Khan’s Experiments with Storytelling Continues

The video is titled "Trailer – Chapter One – The Hunt". But for a trailer it offers very little, dangerously veering into the "Teaser" territory. There is the obvious revenge and violence drama template to it, with the thudding religious score, Shiva's dumroo imagery, and the voiceover that gives us a sense of who Laal Kaptaan is, a man besotted with violence, obsessed with his victim as one is with a lover. It is a wonderful throwback to the singularly awful Langda Tyagi from Omkara

The setting of the film is ambiguous. There are Angrakhas, and British cavalry uniform, so perhaps it is during the wars of secession and annexation pre-1857. In the trailer however, we only see him violently engaging with the Angrakhas, perhaps Rajputs.

Directed by Navdeep Singh of NH 10 fame, shot by Shankar Ramen, who also shot Mukkabaaz and directed Gurgaon, and produced by Eros and Aanand L Rai's Colour Yellow Productions which has been making incredibly exciting film choices, this film's grunge vibe is definitely one we are looking forward to watching.

It releases on the 18th of October.
