FC Trailer Talk: Simran

Directed by Hansal Mehta, Kangana Ranaut-starrer Simran is about a young Gujarati divorcee who finds freedom in living alone for the first time. It shows a goofy and spunky Kangana, who crosses the line by breaking the law due to a gambling addiction. Kangana is even seen telling a suitor, "Mujhe jue ki aur chori ki latt hai (I'm addicted to gambling and stealing)." The film is based on a real life incident in the US of an Indian-origin maid being arrested for robbing banks to pay off her debts.

Entirely shot in Atlanta, the film has been embroiled in controversy when the poster was released crediting Kangana for 'additional story and dialogue' ahead of writer Apurva Asrani. Apurva also took to social media to share his angst claiming that he had been cheated and the actor's claim of 'creating the story out of a one-line brief' was false. Kangana has, meanwhile, claimed that she has introduced most of the themes in the film which have made it what it is, such as her character being a divorcee as well as the feminist undercurrents.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar and Shailesh Singh, Simran releases on September 15.
