Trailer Talk: Shoojit Sircar’s October Starring Varun Dhawan Shows A Lot But Gives Away Little

The trailer of Shoojit Sircar's October is out and it is set in a place far away from the autumn leaf-strewn lush mountains that we'd seen in the teaser.

Dan (Varun Dhawan) is a staff at a five star hotel. There's something about Dan that is different from his colleagues. We see him fussing about the fact that someone has ironed the underwear of the patron of Room 302; "Ever heard of the concept of elastic? It becomes loose," says an irritated Dan to his team. Dan seems obsessively committed to his duties, and when, in a strange turn of events, one of his colleagues, Shiuli (played by Banita Sandhu), falls seriously ill and is admitted to the ICU, she calls for Dan to be by her side. No one knows exactly why. She wasn't romantically interested in him, a friend of her tells Dan clearly. Dan begins spending all his time at the hospital; "Sister, isn't the urine output more than usual today?," he asks the nurse. "Don't you have any work?," she responds.

October is not a love story, the trailer tells us, but a story about love. We aren't sure what it is exactly about and that's a good thing. Sircar and his writer Juhi Chaturvedi (Vicky Donor, Piku) have an intriguing premise in hand and Dhawan, with his hyper-energetic tendencies reined in, looks promising.

The music of October is by Shantanu Moitra and Anupam Roy. It is produced by Rising Sun Films and Kino Works and will release on April 13.
