Actor-director Raj B Shetty seems to be on a roll. He starred in multiple films last year like 777 Charlie and Thurthu Nirgamana and gained a huge fanbase with his directorial Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana (2021). While he has another directorial, the Siri Ravikumar starrer Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye in the pipeline and now, the filmmaker writes and stars in the recently announced Toby. The makers of the film unveiled the title and motion poster of the film, along with a release date. The film will be released in theatres on August 25.
The motion poster features the visual of a ram (a big-horned sheep), with a splatter of blood on its face. Red dominates the poster as the theme song composed by Midhun Mukundan fills in. The tagline reads, ‘Maarige Daari’, translating to ‘Make way for the ram ’. The promotional material before the announcement alluded to the ram as a metaphor for an innocent creature that has been pushed to be a beast. While no plot details have been revealed yet, the tone and treatment of the poster hint at the film being another tale of violence along the lines of Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana.
Directed by Basil Alchakkal, Raj Shetty stars as the titular Taoby and serves as the writer of the film. The film co-stars Samyuktha Hornad, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Chaithra J Achar and Raj Deepak Shetty. Lighter Buddha Films handles the production of the film along with Agastya Films, a venture by producer Ravi Raj Kalasa. While Praveen Shriyan serves as the cinematographer, and Midhun Mukundan scores the music.
