“Izzat nahi karte, darte hain sab. Par dar ki yahi dikkat hai ki kabhi bhi khatam ho sakta hai,” says Pankaj Tripathi in Amazon Prime’s new original series Mirzapur. He plays Kaleen Bhaiya, who, according to his licence plate, is the ‘king’ of the city. He lives in a palatial house, replete with a portrait of himself hanging above his bed.
But all’s not well at home. His relationship with his wife (Rasika Dugal) is strained at best and his coke-addicted son (Divyendu Sharma) can’t be entrusted to run the town in his absence. Things get trickier when he gets locked into a tussle with two brothers, (Vikrant Massey and Ali Fazal) who grow increasingly violent over the series. The trailer also features numerous shots of guns, several fistfights and a car running over a severed finger.
Created by Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna, Mirzapur has been directed by Gurmmeet Singh. All nine episodes of the show will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video on November 16.
