Like its protagonist, Surya (Abhimanyu Dassani), who has a rare condition where one doesn’t feel physical pain, Vasan Bala’s Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota is a rare concoction of 80s pop culture references, big emotion, and pure action choreography. Its Bruce Lee-worshipping young hero grows up in the middle class neighbourhood of Matunga vowing to avenge his mother’s death by taking on the chain snatchers. The excellent supporting cast includes Mahesh Manjrekar as Surya’s grandfather/mentor; Radhika Madan as his childhood sweetheart, who kicks some serious ass. But it's a very funny Gulshan Devaiah who nearly steals the show in a double role: the local Karate legend Mani, and his evil twin brother, Jimmy. Thrown into the mix is Karan Kulkarni’s funky, retroish soundtrack.
