Vidyut Jammwal: I Know I Am The Best Action Hero In The World, Film Companion

After a three-year break, Vidyut Jammwal returns to the silver screen with Commando 2, a sequel to his 2013 action entertainer Commando. While promoting his film, the actor took time out to discuss his hiatus, getting stereotyped in the action genre and why he said no to Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.

On his 3-year hiatus from films

I’m like a Rolls-Royce. I don’t need to advertise or come up with a new product every few months.

A Beamer, BMW or Mercedes may need to do that. But when you’re that good, you can afford to wait 2-3 years and then come up with the best product.

On his fan following

I have a group of fans called the Jamwalions on social media. I consider them my family. I know around 50,000 of them personally. I can recognize each of them from their display pictures. When I am travelling across cities I ensure I meet them, invite them to my vanity van and give them a meal. They are the ones who have ensured I come back to the theatres despite not having a release for 3 years.

On being an action star

I don’t think, I know I am the best action hero in the world. I’m convinced that nobody in this world can do what I do with this physique and height.

My producer signed me on because he knows that when I hit people on screen I can hit them just as hard off screen too.

On getting type-cast as an action hero

If Michael Jackson is known as the King of Pop, why would he want to sing ghazals?

On turning down a role in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

Let me put it this way – If Brad Pitt made a pass at you and you weren’t interested what would you say?
