The All Living Things Environmental Film Festival celebrates another year of ground breaking films and virtual storytelling, with the second edition set to take place between October 9th and 17th, 2021. ALT EFF was established out of a need to bring people together through the arts; to raise awareness about issues that surround the climate justice movement and to practise global resilience in the face of a crisis that threatens to divide and conquer.
Having formed an interested and engaged virtual community in 2020, ALT EFF looks forward to uniting their community again this year. ALT EFF was conceived as a physical festival, but this year – in order to ensure safety for all festival goers – ALT EFF will be virtual, which means you can attend from anywhere in the world!
This year, the festival selection consists of 44 films divided into ten film bundles, representing 31 countries and featuring 33 India premieres. The bundles are as follows: Drive Thru Shorts, Activision, Midnight Tails, What’s On Your Plate?, Sapling Stories (Kids Friendly), Flux & Form, A Chasm of Hope, New Voices, Deep Dive Features and Programmer’s Choice. Each bundle has been thematically curated and touches upon a wide range of topics, to ensure all festival-goers know what they’re getting into.
The official festival trailer makes a bold statement about the cinematic prowess of the 2021 program. The organization has strived to present a selection of high-quality cinema, created [and curated] with dedication despite the challenges put forth by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the advisory board for 2021, Sophy Vsivaraman and Datta Dave join Mike Pandey; while the jury this year comprises of the highly celebrated award winning photojournalist Michael Snyder alongside Amin Hajee, Anand Patwardhan and Sourav Sarangi, each a stalwart in their field. This year’s edition of ALT EFF offered a new film submission category, a ‘Youth Category’, along with International Feature Films, International Short Films, Indian Feature Films and Indian Short Films. The selected films for each of these programs exemplify the tenacity, commitment and hope of the creative community as the climate emergency looms over us all.
