7G Rainbow Colony is a 2004 Tamil romantic drama film written and directed by Selvaraghavan. It stars Ravi Krishna (debut) and Sonia Agarwal. The film’s music was scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja and it was shot by Arvind Krishna.
Here are a few questions asked by audiences on our social media handles:
Prem Shanmugam: While even 7G was about a hero stalking a girl, why was this still enjoyable while similar movies now are detested (rightly so). Was it because the hero gets reformed and responsible in the end? How does a movie tread this thin line between stalking and love and succeed?
I think context is everything. 7G to me is very different from a film like Remo, where stalking is a cool way to get the girl. If you look at the genre called Stalker Films, it’s more like Raanjhanaa, where the Dhanush character does bad things, sees other people suffer and learns from them.
To me, a Sigappu Rojakkal is a far more misogynistic movie than 7G. Kamal’s character is hurt by women and therefore he turns into a misogynist. He is shown as cool and charming, despite the fact that we see this other side of his. Where as in this film we are in no doubt about how the world sees Kadir, the hero. And even he knows this. So to me 7G begins as a story of a boy who’s a stalker and then turns into the story of his transformation.
Ashu Talkies: Sonia Agarwal performed amazingly in this movie. She acted like a best friend, guide, sister, mother while being a sacrificing beloved all the same time. Don’t you think such prominent roles should be written and encouraged more in an industry where hero worshipping has always been a norm?
Okay, as much as I like this film, you have to admit that this very conception of the heroine is itself a kind of hero worshipping. We saw this in Tamasha as well in a milder form. The heroine is like this angel has been put on this earth simply to help this man get over his issues.
At most, we can say that unlike many other films about stalking, Anita doesn’t fall for him after a couple of songs. She begins to soften towards him (not love him) only at the 1 hour 24 minute mark, after this bit just before the interval which is about an hour and a half into the movie.
