Inside The Box: Brahmastra Earns More than Rs 100 Crore in First Weekend

On Friday, September 9th, before Brahmastra, with its budget of over Rs. 400 crore rupees, released, the film led to PVR and Inox Leisure losing a cumulative valuation of approximately Rs. 940 crore in market capitalisation. Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi didn’t take this news seriously. “These kinds of ad-hoc, knee-jerk reactions are very unfounded,” he said. By the morning of September 12th, shares of the two companies rose nearly 5% each on the Bombay Stock Exchange. Producers Star Studios and Dharma Productions shared that on day 1, Brahmastra’s worldwide gross earnings were Rs. 75 crore.

According to Bollywood Hungama, over the weekend, Brahmastra made a gross collection of Rs. 143.75 crore in India, and Rs. 51.78 crore overseas, bringing global earnings to Rs. 195.53 crore. Pinkvilla reported that Brahmastra has earned nearly rupees Rs. 210 crore globally in its first three days, of which the Hindi version has collected between Rs 105.50 crore to Rs. 106.50 crore domestically. The dubbed versions have made approximately Rs. 13.75 crore (nett), with Telugu earning the most.

Rathi said that the takeaway from Brahmastra’s success is that good content brings in audiences. “If we give the audience content that is worth their time, money and effort, they will come in big numbers. There is a sizeable population in this country which realises that the movies that we make aren’t the effort of one actor or one filmmaker, they are the efforts of hundreds of people. That effort is brazenly visible in Brahmastra,” said Rathi.
