3 Things We’re Looking Forward To In DisneyPlus Hotstar Show Loki

In Loki, the Loki (Tom Hiddleston) from The Avengers (2012) must deal with the fallout of the time heist shenanigans from Avengers: Endgame (2019). Admittedly, that sentence is a little hard to follow if you aren't clued in to the entirety of the Marvel universe, but the gist of it is that when the Avengers traveled back in time to stop Thanos, they unwittingly handed past Loki, captured for his crimes against Earth, a means of escape. Loki's escape via his use of the Space Stone opens up a rift in the space-time continuum, breaking reality. Now, the Time Variance Authority and agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) need his help to put it back together.

Since future Loki, the one who finally found some semblance of friendship with Thor and learned to trust him, is dead, and the show focuses on past Loki, you know he's angrier, much more villainous and definitely up to no good. It's a bit of a regression for the character but it's always fun to watch the trickster snarl out one-liners and smugly attempt to one-up everybody else in the room. Ahead of the show's release on DisneyPlus Hotstar on June 11, here are three things we're looking forward to:

Loki using his powers

As the god of mischief, Loki can conjure up elaborate illusions to aid in his schemes. That's what made his death in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) a little bit of an anti-climax. (Seriously, who goes after Thanos with a knife when you have magic at your disposal?) The trailer gives us a glimpse of him leaning into his magical abilities a bit more and it's about time that happened.

Black Widow?

Loki's travels through time place him at the site of at least two major historical events – the destruction of Pompeii as Mount Vesuvius erupts, covering it in ash, and the disappearance of DB Cooper, a criminal who hijacked a Seattle-bound plane in 1971, collected $200,000 from the passengers and then parachuted off into obscurity. Loki's journey also seems to include events in the MCU canon as the trailer gives us a glimpse of Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), who sacrificed herself in Avengers: Endgame. Could she be alive in an alternate timeline that Loki visits? The penultimate episode of Loki drops on the same day Black Widow releases. Let the theories commence.

The buddy humour

In the absence of Thor, it's nice to have another character who knows exactly which of Loki's buttons to push. Mobius says he's spent his whole life studying Loki and is wise to how many time's he's backstabbed others. That's not likely to help him though. "It's adorable that you think you could possibly manipulate me," says Loki, who knows that too.
