Yash Raj Films has always been committed to great music in their movies. As they reach their 50-year landmark, we look back at ten of their most iconic soundtracks
That the voice of Lata Mangeshkar introduces the Yash Raj Films banner at the beginning of each of their feature presentations, is in itself a ready testament to the high music quality that the production house has come to represent over the last 50 years. Beginning with their very first film Daag (1973), to Chandni (1989), up all the way to Kill Dil (2014) and Sultan (2016), YRF has always known the audience’s pulse when it comes to music. Be it albums like Darr (1993), Hum Tum (2004) or Band Baaja Baaraat (2010), or their iconic Chak De! India (2007) title track, which went on to become an anthem for every Indian achievement on the global stage, YRF has literally hit the right note with their film compositions. Such has been their commitment to good music that they even turned to the late Madan Mohan’s unreleased compositions for Veer-Zaara (2004). As they reach their 50-year landmark we look back at ten of their most iconic soundtracks, whose songs continue to stand the test of time.
