In a role unlike any she’s played before, Shraddha Kapoor plays the titular role in Haseena Parkar, gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s younger sister. Directed Apoorva Lakhia, the film traces Haseena’s life from a bubbly young girl to a hardened mob boss. Shraddha Kapoor’s brother, Siddhant Kapoor has essayed the role of Dawood Ibrahim.
Dawood Ibrahim is a prime suspect in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, funding Lashkar-e-Taiba and Al Qaeda and his sister, Haseena Parkar was involved in extortion and Hawala rackets involving money being sent from the Middle-East to India. Parkar passed away after a cardiac arrest in 2014.
The fast-paced trailer shows Haseena Parkar’s life being turned upside down after her husband and oldest child are killed in a gang war with Arun Gawli’s men and how she becomes a vindictive female gangster. At the trailer launch in the iconic Maratha Mandir in Mumbai, director Apoorva Lakhia, whose last film was Zanjeer (2013), said, “While making the film, we were mindful of not glorifying anyone and have presented both sides of the story – Haseena’s as well as the police’s – and intensive research has gone into this film.”
Produced by Nahid Khan, Sameer Antulay and Sameer Shaikh, the film is slated to release on August 18.
